Return of magic screeny talk

Featured Replies

I was just reading other posts in this forum, talking of disappearing, too good to be true screen shots. My mind went back to the magic screenies from the FSX pre-release days.I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed it, but I've seen the magic screenies in FSX ... take a look at the reflections on the push back tugs. (They are there in Acceleration, anyway.)

There was never a magic screeny for FSX and there are none for Flight. This "magic screeny" was a goal for the team, not what the product was going to look like. These situations are not comparable in any way.

If you are talking about that DX10 Preview Shot depicting undulating waves, an Alpine scene, all in a sort of quasi Roger Dean setting, why don’t we all just move on. As Brandon said, the shot was a ‘goal’/aspiration from the ACES team, rather than a deliberate and supercilious attempt by Microsoft to insult our intelligence and mislead us into buying a concept that didn’t exist, or technology at the time would not allow. No one is more suspicious than me about the manipulative and avaricious nature of some large companies/organisations. But let’s put this into perspective. We are talking about a relatively small team of developers, who probably have no or little interest of the wider goals of Microsoft, trying to produce a product that we can always say no to. Tristan

I just thought it was funny that some developer had a sense of humor, and actually put the screenshot in as a reflection off the tug windshield.

That's not the "magic screenie" at all; it's simply the default GlobalEnvTest.dds file being used for the "reflections." It is a "cube map" that has a "sky" panel, a "ground" panel, and four "scenery" panels with grass and mountain images in the background.

I find it funny that so far in every thread, someone brings up the magic screenshot, yet that somehow isent enough? Now you need a dedicated thread? This has NOTHING to do with Flight. Move on already.

Agreed. I think the relatively small team at Microsoft, who is putting this product together has been doing a pretty good job of providing accurate information on the upcoming release via the screenshots and the webisodes. I really don't think there is a sinister committee of MS bean counters and PR people plotting to trick the members of the Avsim Microsoft Flight forum into buying Flight. I am thinking MS makes more profit a thousand other ways. Flight is one very small piece of the business model for MS and I just hope the Flight project team really does put something very good together for this version.

MS has "put something" very good together from very other version ... it will be the same this version.

I really think this version is going to be very good version, whether is has a brand new engine with no existing FSX code assets or if it does have some existing stuff in it. I think the project team and the leadership responsible for the project's success and have a strong sense of doing a very good job and learning some lessons from FSX, which had its good and bad points (like everything including Flight)
