December 20, 200322 yr OK...now one of my favorite planes will work in FS2004..because the update appeared today. I just love the sound, the look, and the feel of this plane, and I've missed it.However, I don't like the functionality of the GPS included in the file. I'd like to use the GPS from FS 2004. Is this possible? I've found the the included GPS lacks CERTAIN clickable buttons to set the approach, the runway, and other features. I can't even get the NAV 1 radio to set correctly. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I don't see any docs with the new update to tell us how to remedy the problem.Anyone else find this to be the case? Stan
December 21, 200322 yr I was kind of hoping F1 would have found a way to include the default GPS too.You can edit the panel.cfg and find the guage and replace it with the FS9 GPS. I played around with it, but when you shrink the GPS to put in the panel, the map icons stay the same size. You'll also lose the nav/com functions.I've been playing around with the freeware GNS530 in the library, but I've run into a problem. It seems FS treats each GPS as a separate unit, so the one on the main panel, the landing panel, the popup, and the VC will not display the same information.I did have both the free GNS530 and GNS430 in the panel, but since the throttle's in the 2d panel are a guage, they overlap and that causes a problem too.
December 21, 200322 yr No doubt about it, you guys need the GNS 530 from Reality XP!My own "ready to go" panel modification for the gauges has been uploaded yesterday. The GPS can be accessed from 2D, landing, and VC view either directly or via a separate pop up panel.http://mitglied.lycos.de/simdream/c421.htm
December 22, 200322 yr It didn't suck when it was released for FS2002. It was a decent attempt at emulating (or at least looking like) a Garmin unit, and at the time it was pretty impressive. Of course now we have other options, and also ways (via Uwe R.) to integrate at least one (the RealityXP 530XP) of them into the 421. I have this setup and it's great stuff. Everyone should keep in mind that Flight1 did the FS2004 update for the 421 (and the Meridian, and...) as a free upgrade for existing owners. The fact that it still has the "GPS" that the '2002 version came with is a minor thing - it's great to have the Geagle back in the hangar.I'm sure that someone will figure out a way to integrate the FS2004 "Garmin" into the 421 soon, at any rate.Dave Blevins System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
December 22, 200322 yr It's unofficial, but it works beautifully in FS9 and this was/is before the new, Flight1 update.http://www.simflyer.net/downloads/Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com Best, Michael KDFW
December 22, 200322 yr well said. Flight1 gave you the same product back that you had in FS2002, including the custom functionality like TCAS which the default GPS lacks. As you know the default GPS is a GNS500 which lacks radios. The GNS530 which Flight1 modelled (for the most part) DOES have a radiostack. Many people (me including) have been using the 421 in FS9 since the day FS9 hit our harddisks using our own modifications to get around the compatibility problems with the GNS530 gauge. This means either working without radios, adding a radiostack by hand, or using external hardware instead of radiogauges (I did the last). You can still do so if you want, noone forces you to use the panel as supplied by Flight1, and nowhere did Flight1 ever promise to give you a completely functional GNS530 with all bells and whistles for free.If you want one, buy the RealityXP unit and install that into the panel (I think a panel config is even included with the RXP530 as an example).
December 22, 200322 yr This is needlessly harsh.. and not really true either IMHO.I quite like the GPS that came with the 421, and at the time, it was absolutely brilliant!Just goes to show how much progress there is in FS avionics! Bert
December 22, 200322 yr Is it possible to use the GNS530 from the Meridian? If so, how would you edit the panel.cfg?Paul
