August 1, 201114 yr I posted this over in the Monitors and Video Card section, but I just wanted to get a broader view of what you guys think of this upgrade, forgive me if this is not allowed here I don't want to break any rules. Hey guys, I am posting to get your guys' input and opinion on a purchase decision. My full rig specs are in my sig, originally I did not plan on upgrading anything until Ivy Bridge comes out, but after watching all of PMDG's latest videos I am contemplating upgrading my graphics card. I currently have an EVGA 275GTX with 896mb of VRAM, and core clock of 648mhz, I am debating purchasing a 560ti Super-clocked,http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130651. One thing I should mention, I am running a 24 inch Dell monitor at 1920X1200 resolution. My question is, do I really need this upgrade, will I see anything beneficial from it. I am not going to change anything else yet as I am planning to just build a whole new rig for Ivy, but this is doable in the meantime. My PSU is a Corsair 750 watt so I am good on the power.Any thoughts, suggestions, I appreciate your input. Thanks guys, Angelo Cosma PPL ASEL / IFR Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Field Service Representative (SEA) ZSE ARTCC Intel i7 6700K 4.8Ghz / ASUS ROG Maximus Hero VIII / 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz Ram / EVGA 1080Ti FTW3/ Corsair H110i GTX EVGA 850 Watt Gold / Samsung 850 500gb SSD

August 1, 201114 yr Hello, I had to rebuild a system myself and I got the 560Ti. As others have said FSX is a CPU-dependent game not GPU so your CPU matters more. The 560Ti is a very nice sweet spot of price/performance. Anything higher and it won't help FSX at all; however, if you play other GPU-intensive games and have extra cash it may be worth a higher card but still keep in mind that you'll pay more for a smaller gain as you go beyond that. At least, it was true a month ago when I built my computer. - Richard
August 2, 201114 yr Author So you guys recommend getting this card then, also when installing the new card all I will have to do is uninstall all the previous graphics drivers with driver sweeper, then pop the new card in and download the latest drivers right? I remember Ryan having a problem with his graphics card install and ended up re-formatting, this wont be the case hopefully correct? August 2, 201114 yr Then you probably already read my answer there but maybe somebody else can benefit from my experience. I wrote:"I just upgraded from a GTX280 OC to a evga GTX570 OC. (my specs: i7 950 at 4,2Ghz, 6 GB 6-6-6-24)I noticed a small increase in frame rates BUT I run higher level of AA now (8xSQ + 2x supersampling) while the FSX is much smoother; stutters are greatly reduced with my new card.So I think you should notice a similar performance increase.I opted for the 570 over a 560ti for the extra vram, allowing to run higher levels of AA. August 2, 201114 yr I doubt you'd even have to touch the drivers although couldn't hurt -- Nvidia cards use the same driver set. Then again, I'm not a hardware person but with all the issues I've caused myself, never had an issue popping out one Nvidia card and putting in another better one. Probably wouldn't hurt to just run the newest driver installer afterwards though. I'd be pickier if switching brands (ATI, for example).
August 2, 201114 yr you should be fine swapping two nVidia cards. Do not forget to delete the entry in your fsx.cfg from your old card! Or better, let fsx build a completely new fsx.cfg by deleting or renaming the old one. Lennart

" I am all for upping my levels of AA and AF do you think the 560ti will be sufficient for 1 1920X1200 monitor, I am willing to spend around 250 bucks, but if it will bottleneck me in a way, I might consider the 570. Its just the price difference is pretty vast, and I quite like the 900mhz clock on the ti. Again I am listening to everyone's suggestions, again thanks for helping me with my decision. Oh forgot to ask, what would the buffer pool sizes be on either the 560 or 570. Thanks. August 2, 201114 yr Monitor your GPU usage. If you're into OCing, give the GPU a slight overclock and see if it effects FPS. If it doesn't and your GPU usage is not close to at least 90%, you're most likely CPU limitedAlso, to help with 8xSQ, try setting AF to application controlled and then "filtering" to "anisotropic" in FSX

Went from the GTX460 to the GTX570 (Overclocked and running at 950Mhz) and seen quite a bit of difference with AA 8XSQ with 4X Supersampling. Id go for the 570 if you can afford it, but the 560Ti can be overclocked quite well. Simon Roberts
August 2, 201114 yr Guys, I would like to piggyback on this topic with a question of my own: Is there a huge difference between a 560 and a 560Ti? The difference in price here is right around €30 ($40 or so?) so it's worth it to know the difference.
