August 3, 201114 yr That's pretty cool. The NPS scales is one part of the manual that I'll need to read to better understand. Thanks for posting. Cheers, Bruce Campion-Smith
August 3, 201114 yr Yes, NPS is a user-selectable option on the NGX. Nearing the end of our journey, now. Here we are on the final portion of the FOOXX arrival, on left downwind for the visual (backed up with the ILS) for 01L at TPA:
August 3, 201114 yr "One thousand feet, on speed, on glideslope, sink eight hundred" Using the HGS is almost like cheating...
August 3, 201114 yr WOW...Those are some great shots! Thank you very much for sharing them with us. Thanks, Joe Inama
August 3, 201114 yr No problem. I just wish the forum didn't compress them into oblivion...the actual shots look SO much better.
August 3, 201114 yr ...so here's something to help pass the time. Don't mistake composure for patience. I assure you, I'm most impatient. LOL Chris Hicks
August 3, 201114 yr No problem. I just wish the forum didn't compress them into oblivion...the actual shots look SO much better.I don't doubt that and I'm sure I'll know for myself soon enough. Thanks, Joe Inama
August 3, 201114 yr Chris, As well you should be! Maybe you guys know this already, but I had a genuine "wow" moment right after the last screenshot I posted above. You see, as I brought the thrust levers back to idle and started the flare, I concentrated on placing the Flight Path Vector on the far end of the runway to achieve a smooth landing in the touchdown zone. It was then, around the periphery of the HGS combiner glass, that I became distracted by something...it was the reflection of the strobe lights on the runway. How cool is that?
August 3, 201114 yr Using the HGS is almost like cheating...He, he it is nice to see the problem discussed here a couple weeks ago fixed. The horizontal deflection bar (the vertical bar with the pointer) is now prefectly aligned with the runway.BTW, Nick, how are cross-wind landings, the opposite aileron-rudder stuff? Michael J.
August 3, 201114 yr Michael, I hesitate to comment, since that depends entirely on your hardware setup and FSUIPC settings. If you're flying with a twist grip stick and no slope on your rudder axis, I imagine it would be pretty difficult. With the proper setup, and the requisite skill, I suspect you won't have any problems whatsoever. Thanks for fixing my name, by the way.
August 4, 201114 yr With the proper setup, and the requisite skill, I suspect you won't have any problems whatsoever.I was referring more to the capability of this simulation, not limits of my skill or of my hardware set-up. As we know proper side-slipping in FSX can't be taken for granted, I have seen everything by now in this area. Thanks for your input. Michael J.
