Scenery TAB help - FPS Hits?

Featured Replies

Hi all, Could someone give me a lowndown on which sliders are the ones which affect Performance in FPS greatly and which ones do not, and any others that are majors. I am running the following: LOD (4.5)MESH: 90MESH RES: 5MTEXTURE RES: 7cmWATER EFFECTS low x2SCENERY COMPLEX: EXTREMELEY DENSEAUTOGEN: MAXSPECIAL EFFECTS: HIGHI am asking this as I had LOD 3.5 and it worked well, went to 4.5 and starting to see slight stutters etc, but my blurries went sharp too close to me so I didn't get to enjoy the scenery sharp for too long before I flew over that area. This is something else I dont want to loose frames but it would be nice if the ground textures went from blurry to sharp sooner so I get to enjoy the nicely detailed ground whilst I am flying towards it, not just when I am flying over it as its currently only going sharp when I fly over it. I suppose I have noticed the best detail on the ground when I went from 38m to 5m in MESH RES, but a little performance hit here, I am just wanting to get the most out of my settings without moving one only to find out I have reduced something else, MESH RES has been the best for detail can anyone suggest better settings to keep the quality of the ground as well... I dont want to double up on threads but its more about the explination of the sliders and what I can do to keep that great detail on the ground. I run the following: an i7-2600K, with x2 GTX 560 SOC at 1000MHZ with 16GB of RAM. I have services being switched off and I use Ultimate Defrag and have max performance on the defrag of my drives with everything from .bmp, bgls, dds etc at the edge of the platters. I have all 4 cores and 8 threads runnign realtime etc, its a nice ship to run FSX and I am getting around 15-20 FPS at heavies but I reckon I could get more with some tweaking. I hope someone could help me somewhat on these settings and to keep the ground looking detailed and sharp, many thanks in advance for any assistance here.......regards

Your system should be able to run detailed scenery just fine.. Try turning down Traffic as a test, for example set Freeway traffic to zero and other traffic to 10% or so.. Personally, I would also turn Hyperthreading off and set Affinitymask to 14 to minimize stutters.

I agree with Bert, your rig you should be able to chew through FSX, even with some heavy addons. To your question I think: 1. Traffic (especially road) - CPU dependent2. Autogen - CPU dependentMost other settings are GPU dependent Another good tuning guide: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041_page1.htmlNo need to run mesh resolution at 5m unless you have some addon mesh with that supports that LOD. Your X2 GTX560's in SLI could also be holding you back too.
