August 15, 201114 yr Hey guys I have an XFX GTX 260 video card with two dvi ports. When I was on windows XP all I had to do was go to the nVidia control panel and set the displays to equal one horizontal monitor. When I go to the nvidia control panel in windows 7 I see no such option. I put FSX in windowed mode and drag to the second monitor but the second monitor is just black. Hope you guys can help.
August 15, 201114 yr You'd have to go with Nvidia surround, which requires 3 monitors. Other options are the Matrox doublehead2go or triplehead2go Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
August 15, 201114 yr What are you trying to do, stretch the cockpit to a second monitor or move 2D panels to the second one? Jay
August 15, 201114 yr Author PIC007 yes, Stretch the cockpit to the second monitor. I really don't want to have to buy triplehead2go or another monitor. Windows XP i could stretch the screen just fine.
August 15, 201114 yr Right click an empty area on your desktop, then go to "Scree Resolution". Under the "Multiple Displays' be sure 'Extend these displays' is selected, then Apply and OK Open FSX and be sure your in 'windows' mode under the 'VIEWS" menu. Then press the 'resize' button (center of the 3, top right corner), and drag the window to the second monitor, size it as needed. Jay
August 15, 201114 yr Author PIC007 thats the setting I have the monitors on. When I try to drag the window across to the second monior fsx just turns black on the second monitor.

Are you sure FSX is in windows mode? It will be black if you are in full screen. I tested it here and works ok, although normally I just have the cockpit on the main monitor and the 2D popups on the second. Do you have anything on the desktop on the #2 monitor (icons etc) so you know you are seeing the desktop? Jay
August 15, 201114 yr Author PIC007 I am in windowed mode. Nothing is on desktop #2. I was wanting to stretch the virtual cockpit across both monitors.
August 15, 201114 yr PIC007 I am in windowed mode. Nothing is on desktop #2. I was wanting to stretch the virtual cockpit across both monitors. The problem is that fsx must see a single monitor for vc to span like that. Take a look at soft th. I have never tried it, but that may work for you. http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/ Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64

August 15, 201114 yr Author It's all good. I really need a new video card but just don't have the cash at this time from all the other new parts. Would I be better off just buying a 560 ti and using one hdmi/one dvi and would I be able to span the VC out that way? Anyone with 560ti's out there tried?

To properly span using only Nvidia software you'll need 2 cards in SLI and 3 monitors. You also can't mix output types. Nvidia's surround only supports 3 monitors. The only options for a two-monitor vc would be a Matrox dh2go. Now if you do buy another card & set up surround on 3 monitors, you can run VC windowed on two monitors, leaving the 3rd clear for other programs. August 15, 201114 yr Author I'm just trying to get this done without spending money but doesn't seem like i'm able to do that. Sucks that from XP to Win7 you seemingly go backwards in technology.
August 15, 201114 yr Yeah, I originally wanted to span my vc across 2 monitors but wound up doing 3. I figured if I had to pay for a dh2go to do it, I might as well just buy another card & monitor instead...There are some software options like soft th that may work for you, but that's about it short of buying additional hardware. August 16, 201114 yr ATI eyefinity will allow you to use two monitors (up to 6) from a single card. The only caveat is that it will only support 2x DVI(total), 1xDVI-I and 1xDVI-D or 1xHDMI (they use the same clock source). The other monitors have to be mini-display port...or buy an active mini-display port to DVI convertorPlease note that with two monitors, the bezel is going to be directly in your eyeline, and will make things hard to see.
