Hi Dazz, You have two mechanical drives, did you install with IDE or AHCI? Thanks Andrew

I installed Windows 7 with IDE enabled in my OS drive's SATA controller. 2 years and 3 boards later it's still set to IDE, but at one point I used the registry thing to switch to AHCI, to test an SSD
Hi Bob, If I am installing 2 WD Black Caviar SATA 111 hard drives should I use AHCI or IDE. I never said I was installing SSD's. I was under the impression according to Nick,s posts performance would be degraded in FSX using platter drives in AHCI Mode. Andrew Dixon
I agree with Dario...install with AHCI, then you have the ability to switch between them at will. If you already have the system built and running with traditional HDDs, I'd leave them in IDE mode. The only time I've seen a noticeable difference (and I don't mean with benchmark scores, but real perceived speed issues running FS) is with an SSD running in IDE mode...AHCI works much better with my Intel X-25M SSDs, and in theory should also make a difference for other SSDs as well.

Just so I get it, later this week I will have delivered an Asus P8Z68 MoBo, a 128 GB Samsung SSD and a WD 1T SATAIII HD, among other things. I plan on putting the OS and FSX on the SSD and other stuff on the HD. Should I set the Bios to AHCI mode? Dan

Yes

I've been working through some issues with OCX Vertex 3 and AHCI mode on the intel SATAIII controller. Seems you should turn hotswap OFF in BIOS on the SATA port you connect SSD to. Then there are possible issues with intel drivers. I don't think any problem with the INF driver but iRST might have some issues. My understanding is you need the iRST for TRIM, even if you don't plan on RAID. You need to check your MB site for the proper iRST version as the Intel latest (I think 10.6.xxxx) may not be right for older boards. Don't know about the Marvel driver. scott s..
