August 25, 201114 yr I upgraded my system with a new os-Windows 7 32bit. Reinstalling FS2004 was ok; the addons are a tricky, but patience pays off. With FSX it's a bust.I put the first cd in the drive and get no install screen.Instead, The screen shows the cd root directory, and that's it. no exe to start. Also I can hear the drive grinding away as it tries to read the cd.The drive itself is OK as other cd's work fine. What's wrong?! Eytan Ornstein Intel Core i5 2500 CPU @3,3GHZGeForce 9800GT 512MB GPUDDR3 4GBSATA 3 hd 1TBWindows 7 32 bitSamsung Synchmaster 931BF 19" monitorMAG Proview 21" monitor
August 25, 201114 yr Eytan Shalom,I did exactly the same last week. i.e re-installing FSX on a new built rig but without any problems. You may suspect its a damaged CD! Good luck,Shay
August 25, 201114 yr Weeeellll.... I don't know that this is the fix, but - you refer to "I put the first cd in the drive and get no install screen." FSX comes on two DVD's - not CD's, so.. - is your drive a CD reader, or is it a DVD reader? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

Any extra installed physical RAM sits ilde, never used. Install the 64bit version instead. With the Home version of Win7 64, you can use up to 16gb of system RAM. The Pro version of Win7 64 can use up to 192gb of system memory, if I recall...
August 26, 201114 yr Author I'm very happy with my specs.the 4GB ddr3 are activated fully.I'm getting 100-200 fps in FS2004 with max settings.So I'm a happy camper. Eytan
August 26, 201114 yr If it's still not fixed - try copying the dvd's to a hard drive folder, and then running the setup. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

Eytan At startup, the system BIOS will detect whatever amount of physical RAM you have installed, but trust me, your 32bit OS will use no more than 3gb. I recommend that if you have 4gb or more RAM installed you use a 64bit OS. It's up to you, however. And, as Torkermax indicated, FSX runs very differently from FS9, especially once you start adding add-ons, which one, no doubt, inevitably does...
August 27, 201114 yr Author Yes i can read the contents of the dvd, as thatis what opens up after inserting the dvd. There are two setup folders.,I tried opening them up but no luck there.is it possible to copy all the files of the 2 dvds to my hard disk, and try from there?Eytan
August 28, 201114 yr Author I took the FSX dvds to a friend's pc.He put in the first dvd and the install wizard popped up, so there's no damage to the dvd.On my pc, the installation doesn't run automatically. Also I can't view all the folders (like I could on my friend's pc).If I could see the setup exe that would be a start, but it's not seen. What's going on? All my other dvd addons were installed without problems. Eytan

August 28, 201114 yr Have you tried other DVD's in there (not CD's), and did they autorun ok? Also, are you using an admin account (sorry, but the obvious stuff needs to be asked)? Is UAC disabled?Edit: sorry, just seen that you installed other DVD addons ok. Regards, PD
August 29, 201114 yr Author Yes I have other dvds like movies and they work-either autorun or I start them up.My UAC is off. After inserting the dvd, when I right click on the FSX setup icon ad run as administator, after a while a message comes up- this program cannot bewopened...bla bla.At the shop I had two dvd drives, and they disconnected the older one, saying I won't need it.Eytan
