Hi, I bought FSX Deluxe Edition directly after release. Due to the bad performance I uninstalled it and have stayed with FS 2004 since then.Now I consider once more to make the jump to FSX.However, I am confused what is the right up to date installation of FSX. Some talk about Gold Edition when other talking about other editions.Then again it has already been upgrades. Could anybody advise me what I should install in addition to my Deluxe Edition in order to have the best installation of FSX ? I can recall that I also encountered an installation problem when I installed som time ago. The installation application would not read from the cdrom driver.When contacting the vendor they told it was a common problem and that I should copy the cd contents to a hard drive an install from this. I did so and it worked. Is that really a common issue ? Regards, Carl

FSX Gold Edition has both FSX Deluxe and Acceleration. You want this. Acceleration adds significant amounts of content to FSX, improves its performance, and includes SP2. In fact, more and more add-ons are created to take advantage of Acceleration, and some even require it. If you already have FSX Deluxe then just purchase Acceleration - if you can find it. You're much more likely to find FSX Gold.

Make sure you start FSX and fly around at least once before installing Acceleration! Cheers, - jahman.

Yes. This is important. Also, RESTART your system after installing FSX but BEFORE installing Acceleration, and RESTART your system again after installing Acceleration. This may seem a bit clumsy, but it is very important. When you start FSX for the first time important databases that FSX will use are built. When you restart your system, very important system files that FSX needs are created on system restart.

That's fine, but sometimes the installation will not go as smoothly if you install everything straight away without starting FSX or system restarts, especially in regards to a utility called SimConnect. You'll learn more about SImConnect with experience and time. This "installation hiccup" an insidious event, however. If something happened you will not notice it until you gain some experience with FSX and how it works, and you try to install some third-party software, and it doesn't work properly. It happens a lot, actually. Most in this forum could probably attest to that. However, it's entirely possible that your installation may have gone without a hitch. The above-mentioned methods are simply a sure-fire way of eliminating this potential hiccup. It's just something to be aware of.

Allow me to highjack this thread to ask you fellow simmers for some advise on my fresh install/ I recently purchased a brand new computer (i2500k,asus z68v-pro, 8 gb storage, vortex 3 system ssd, kingston 128 Gb fsx ssd, asus hd6970 cuII graphics card).The machines come pre-installed and configured with w7 64-bits home edition.Last week i have been rebuilding my software on it. However after a week i noticed i was missing the 2 d panels for all my add on planes (a340-500/600, f70/100, cs757, airbus long haul and many more). Since then i have been trying to find the cause of this and now i have found it but i do not understand it. I deinstalled a lot but in the end i took the dive and restored the machine to factory delivery (only thing installed is w7 64 bit home edition)I did buy a new FSx gold.Installed FSx on the kingston ssd (D-drive) in directory D:/fsx.Starting up fsx and selecting the default learjet shows the 2 d panels. (btw in ref of above discussion, i did start fsx and checked the lear on the tarmac of ehrd. did not fly here out btw)Closed down fsx and then installed acceleration.On start up the 2 d panels are missing (btw VC cockpit is working perfect and as far as i have been able to determine anything else is also working properly)Removing acceleration brings back the 2 d panels. Installing SP1 over fsx removes the 2d panels.Installing SP2 does not bring them back I removed the complete fsx and installed with a previous fsx de luxe edition i had into a different directory on d (d:\flightsim). But also with this other DVD's i get exactly the same symptom2D panels oke after install of FSx2D panels blacked out after install of either acceleration or sp1. Since my Fokker F70/100 is only working with 2 d panels and also because i am stil in the process of restoring everything on this machine i can live with reformats/reinstall now so i am wondering if anyone has any tips, i have not worked out myself yet, that can be followed to bring back my 2D panels for the large fleet i have in my hanger I tried searching for this specific behaviour with google and here on vatsim but could not find this specific behaviour (i have followed another tip to cycle through w but that didn't work) Fred Koch

Oke some further investigation learned me that the problem is eyefinity related. If i disable the eyefinity group (3 x 1 at 5760 x1080) and run fsx on just one 1980x 1020 screen my 2D panels re-appear.So it is not a installation error. (pity for me having restored everything back to the status of one week ago ). So i will redo all the installations and switch to one screen when flying the fokker 70/100 and use VC with TrackIR5 for all other (VC) capable planes Still strange this didn't show up with google. For sure someone else must have noticed this behaviour and reported it. Or even better found a fix for it. Btw i am running catalyst 11.8 drivers on my asus 6979 CUII Fred Koch
