3D volumetric clouds, have a look at this

Check out the latest trailer "Kuban"

Have a look at the autogen, clouds/cloud shadows, cockpit shadows, crisp ground textures etc etc. You think Flight will ever look as good? I somehow doubt it.
Weird, I thought it already looked as good. The clouds and cockpit shadows are both pretty much equal looking, to be honest. And you can't even really fairly compare a game like that to a flight simulator that models the whole world as well as advanced systems on an aircraft.

Kind of like what I mentioned in an earlier post, when I said:I think the clouds in the trailer look great. I hope nobody says that this is an invalid request or comparison because Flight has to model clouds for the entire world, and therefore, volumetric clouds are not possible. Straight%20Face.gif The Flight Sim franchise does not truly model the entire world, they use a lot of assets that repeat over and over. For instance, they do not model autogen structures or vegetation for the whole planet, they just place the same visual assets in a bunch of different places. What I was kind of trying to say is my earlier post, which probably did not make too much sense, is I would hope that MS can create highly realistic visual assets that they can use all over the world. I would love it if they had trees, houses, buildings, etc.(that by the way, actually had proper scale) that would look so nice and realistic that people who played other titles would be impressed and would look to Microsoft FS series as something to aspire to visually. I really think something like this can be done. We are all just used to what MS does, and not the potential of what can be done. Just a bit of a rant. :)

I would always prefer less detailed voluminetric clouds to good looking textures. While the textured clouds look fantastic on screenshots, voluminetric clouds might be much more flexible in use and more realistic to fly through. Even with REX and and Active Sky Evolution, I find it very hard to identify the weather fronts or development by looking at the clouds. Less detailed voluminetric clouds with realistic cloud development and better correlation of cloud size and form with weather and wind strength would be a massive step towards realism in my opinion.
This is exactly what they need to be going for. Realism over visual fluff. Bring on the ice, turbulence effects, punish us for not avoiding buildups. Allow people to learn from the weather!
