September 7, 201114 yr No matter what I do I can not slow this aircraft down to land it .I have tried all I know .I am @ final at 190 and can not get it to slow more .I have dropped the gear (no change) Extended speed brakes (no change)Flaps( no change) I have flown other planes before such as PIC 737 pmdg 747 old pmdg 737 never had this issue. If someone could advise me with this it would be great Thanks Roger Deloge
September 7, 201114 yr Can you stall it? What about in straight and level flight, with engines at idle, no AT? What happens to the speed then? Cristi Neagu
September 7, 201114 yr A/T is disabled right? You might be in a speed mode and N1 just keeps increasing as you add drag. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 7, 201114 yr It's an ongoing process, you have to start thinking about slowing down from the moment you get near the top of your descent, i.e. when you are fifty miles away from the airport and about to let down, because the 737, like most jets, is a slippery SOB, and worse, the CFM 56 engine sometimes needs you to keep some RPM on it when going through rain clouds to avoid it flaming out (that's mostly if you simulating an older aircraft before they modded the spinners on the CFM 56 in order to dissipate water better, but the problem is not completely eradicated.) Thus you drop the speed before you descend (i.e. you might even get the engines right back to idle speed manually and let gravity keep your speed on), so that you can control things better as you start to come down, then you gradually drop that speed with altitude, aiming for perhaps 230 knots as you get near 10,000 feet. Then you slow a bit more, come down again, feed in some flaps, then slow a bit more, add some more flaps etc, i.e. you don't want to scream down to 4000 feet 15 miles away from the airport and then wonder how you can shed 300 knots of airspeed. It's not unknown for 737 drivers to have dropped the gear on a descent to keep the speed down in real life and they will sometimes have to throw in a dog leg to allow them to lose some speed as well, but you should be able to get it down comfortably to 150 or so as you start getting the gear and flaps fully down so that it's a minor tweak to get on you threshhold speed, if not, you might want to rely less on the FMC and autothrottle to do everything, as at the end of the day it is you who is driving the thing. September 7, 201114 yr Author I have never had to shut off AT until I shut off AP just before touchdown .I have always been able to slow . But along those lines it seems like the throttle is hung up .I have taken off both AT and AP and tried to slow it down without them but it still will not go below 190 and I have the speed set to 145 Roger Deloge
September 7, 201114 yr Hi, You haven't said what type of landing you are attempting, AUTOLAND or MANUAL? If you are executing an AUTOLAND, remember to set your vref in the MCP when it enables during approach. If you are executing a MANUAL, remember to dis-arm the A/P AND A/T. Regards.
September 7, 201114 yr Author I am at landing flaps and gear down. As for auto land the answer is no. I have tried to set up autoland by pressing the 2nd AP button after Glide scope capture in the past but it comes on for a second or two then drops out.It seem as though if I have it down to 180 or lower when the capture begins it starts to increase speed and will not slow.I also shut off AT and AP just before landing and I have speed set at 145 but can not get it to that speed no matter what I seem to do. September 7, 201114 yr Author Yes I have .I also have had a few good landings .This is something that has just started the last few flights Roger Deloge
