March 7, 200422 yr Just when we thought that we'd lost the seasonal autumn (fall) texture crash, I can report a 100% reproduceable Winter one.Co-ords: N50 12.14 E7 40.33 About 40mls WNW of Frankfurt. If I change the season to Summer (Aug) FS doesnt bork.I'd be very grateful if someone else could give this a try. If only to prove its not system specific. The zip below contains the flt,wx and the fsnavigator fsn. Flip through FSNavs FMS until the next waypoint is UBIDU. Try it with the default 777 (FL380). Particularly annoying as it's about 3hrs into LTAC Turkey - EGGP Liverpool.I should add I have no landclass files installed. Many thx.http://www.ukdirectva.co.uk/misc/fscrash.zip - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space

March 7, 200422 yr Soon it will be summer again and all those crashes will be nothing more than a memory. Hey, maybe that's why MS isn't bothering fixing it. They're hoping everyone will forget about come june :-lol -
March 7, 200422 yr Dean,Try the Jobia patch linked above. I had the exact same crashes in the same spot and that patch fixed them for me. Misha :-wave
March 7, 200422 yr You're probably right on the mark there, Jimmie. This sim should be renamed "The Summmer Flight Simulator". Works just fine 1/4 of the time. :-)
March 8, 200422 yr Actually it works in all the seasons. It's just that transitional bit between Fall & Winter and Winter & Spring. At least that's what the fellows that tested it thorougly reported.Don't know if the other 2 transitional bits will CTD or not.-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what
March 8, 200422 yr Thx for your replies guys.I thought the jobia fix was only for those who'd installed mesh or landclass files? If fixes default scenery as well? - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
March 8, 200422 yr Dean,Yes. FS2004 in "default" mode is susceptible to the seasonal CTD at some previously-tested spots--though this Frankfurt coordinate seems to be a new location.Look under Holger Sandmann's posts here for references to the two solutions: the "Jobia" fix and the Microsoft-leaked fix. Alternatively, there is a long discussion over at the FSGenesis forums. http://portal.fsgenesis.net/index.php?name...viewtopic&t=374Best wishes,Mike --Mike MacKuen
March 8, 200422 yr Mike my man! How's things? Blackpool charts out soon ;)I see you've gotten involved pretty deeply with this CTD issue. Which fix did you go for; jobia or MS? - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
March 9, 200422 yr The manual for Jobia's fix is in German.Could someone give detailed instructions how to install it?Thanks in advance.
March 9, 200422 yr i) Backup terrain.cfg in FS9 folder.ii) Extract all bmp's to scenery/world/textureiii) Extract the last terrain.cfg in the zip to your FS9 folder. - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
March 9, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi there:Ken has moved the last main thread about the seasonal CTD in the Tips & Tricks section: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...sg_id=315&page=Here is a translation of the author's instruction for installation:---1. Download crashto.zip at http://jobia.bei.t-online.de/crashdes.htm and unzip into temporary folder, with "Use folder names" enabled. 2. make a backup copy of your FS9terrain.cfg file 3. copy the .bmp files from the PatchTexture folder into your FS9Texture folder 4. copy one of the two replacement terrain.cfg files into your root FS9 folder. The version in the "terrain_cfg mit ..." folder retains the default blending of landclass textures along the utility lines, the version in "terrain_cfg ohne ..." replaces the blending with simple textures. Both versions fix the seasonal CTD crashes, the additional changes to the utility corridors are just a pet peeve of Jobia and have no influence on the crashes (in Europe, most utility corridors don't have clearings cut, unless they run through forested areas). ---On the same website is an alternative terrain.cfg (terrain.zip); Joachim recommends using this one instead of the ones included with crashto.zip. Not sure how this variant differs from the others.Cheers, Holger
