TrackIr or alternative for regular webcam?

To summarize what others have already said, if you are flying with the keyboard and mouse, the first thing you need is a joystick with a hatswitch so you can control the aircraft and use the hatswitch to look around in the virtual cockpit. The next step would be to try FaceTrackNoIR with your webcam. When I tried using the webcam, it worked but wasn't impressive. They continue to improve the software, and it requires a good webcam. I already had Trackir, so I haven't tried it again lately. FaceTrackNoIR is a free download. Do a Google search.
IM currently flying with a Xbox 360 controller, and ive already said, I have no problems controlling the aircraft... Panning to view the VC is a hole different matter, which is why I am still trying to get some sort of external tracker... I can be really smooth with the controller but viewing the VC and trying to control the autopiliot is the hole problem with my setup... Unless I use tthe mouse and keyboard.. which I hate useing., Now ive tried installing facetracknoir and it doesnt start up :( :(

You need to go to their website and look for instructions specific to your setup and FSX. As I remember, you may even have to download a demo from Seeing Machines to get it configured, but those instructions should be at the FaceTrackNoIR website.

what is that suppost to mean? sorry bout last night lol i must have been really out of it.. I installed and updated facetracknoIR and its starting to work.. Im just trying to configure it and improve its functionability.. Im trying to find a way to set the defualt "face forward" part of it, because its dectected my head like im looking to my side and down, when in reality im directly facing it. I have my webcam directly on top and in the center of my monitor. and its a decient webcam that is 1.3 MP I dunno.. but my mind is just a bit clearer today lol ;) Thanks guys for the help everything is almost working.. just need to calibrate it :)

Try putting your webcam on the bottom and center. It will work much better. I use FaceTrackerNoIR and it work great. Art Schwartz, Jr.
