October 4, 201114 yr Author Thats great Jim - I've been sat viewing youtube videos all day and have seen various results so this is a relief :) Craig Craig Harris 'NG Driver' for an airline whom shall not be named...
October 4, 201114 yr Pick an I5 2500K instead8GB (2 x 4GB) of RAM better than 12GBGet a good CPU coolerOverclock the I5 2500K to 4.5 - 4.8GHz
October 4, 201114 yr Author So an i5 would be better than an i7? I was planning to Overlock the i7 a bit up to 4.5Ghz +I'm going to need to buy 16GB of ram anyway - wrote 12 by mistake - I need the 16 for animation work I do for rendering out stuff... October 4, 201114 yr So an i5 would be better than an i7? I was planning to Overlock the i7 a bit up to 4.5Ghz + No, it's not better, but not worse either... for FSX. If you do other things like animation and rendering and that makes good use of hyperthreading you may want to stick to your original plan and get the I7 2600K
October 4, 201114 yr Author Ahh alright so really its more that FSX doesn't utilise the full capability of an i7? That makes sense, yeah I think I'll just go for the i7 (already budgeted for it) as it'll help with my animation stuff etc. Craig Harris 'NG Driver' for an airline whom shall not be named...
October 5, 201114 yr You'll be hapy with your new machine. I have pretty much the same except for a GTX580. My SB is cranked up to 4.8ghz on air and I've yet to have any issues with it (make sure you install a good CPU cooler though), runs the NGX in and out of KSEA/CYVR with Orbx scenery at 30fps rock solid and no stutters. October 5, 201114 yr Author Ah thats good Rob, was thinking of this cooler for the CPU http://www.ebuyer.com/176157-arctic-cooling-freezer-7-pro-rev-2-socket-775-1156-1155-1366-ac-frz-7pr2 and after reading some reviews of PSUs I think a 650W would be reasonable wouldn't it? http://www.ebuyer.com/200491-coolermaster-gx-650w-psu-6x-sata-2x-pci-e-80plus-certified-rs650-acaae3-uk Thanks in advance.Craig Craig Harris 'NG Driver' for an airline whom shall not be named...
October 6, 201114 yr I went with a 1000w supply, there's a few different power requirement calculators to be found on google that'll help you get a generalized idea of what you'll need for power but don't leave your self too slim on the power department, you'll want horsepower to spare for future upgrades. As for the Arctic Freeze, they're good. I've never used one but my brother is happy with his and he's got a OC'd i7-980x and hasn't had any issues. I run the Thermaltake Frio http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106150 It's a push pull 2 fan cooler, took about 2 minutes to set up. With sliders all the way to the right, NGX in Orbx world with REX2.0 running in the background, the warmest I've seen the processor is 62 degrees and that was pushing it on VATSIM out of KSEA.
