screen flickering with FS2004 and Nvidia GEforce FX5900

Featured Replies

I have a new computer Pentium 4 3Giga with 1 giga memory and installed FS2004.Almost everything works well with good frame rates but I have a problem of screen flickering : the entire screen flickers and it is especially visible when looking at the sky and clouds. It seems to be only with MSFS because I have tried other games and the problem does not appear.I have tried to change many settings like screen definition, refresh rates, AA , FS display options, nothing changes. Is this a video card problem , a win XP problem, a FS problem?here is my config:Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 BIOS: BIOS Date: 08/20/03 12:57:55 Ver: 08.00.09Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 1022MB RAMDirectX Version: DirectX 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901) Card name: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Manufacturer: NVIDIACurrent Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (85Hz)Driver Version: 6.14.0010.4523 (English)Description: SoundMAX Digital Audiomotherboard Asus P4P800 Deluxescreen Iiyama A902MT vision MasterPro451I would really appreciate any helpthanks

Update DirectX.Update Video driver, 45.23 is pretty old.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi PatrickYou obviously should upgrade to directx 9.0b (from Microsoft web site) and to the Nvidia 53.03 driver (from their web site). You will see a huge improvement.David

Hello.I also have the same problem. It has been partly comfirmed by other users with GeForce FX5XXX cards aswell. I also experience that problem since I upgraded from 4200ti to a Aopen Geforce 5900XT.Read the topic on this confirmed flickering here:http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?th...23&goto=newpostThere seems no logical solution for what is happening, but it seems it is a driver issue.I tried 53.03, 45.23, 53.04 - all with the same flickering. Its not a flickering of certain "things" more a general vibrating washing effect and not the commong know flickering of things in the distance.Any solution would be greatly appreciated.ByeJan

another think you can try is to install the proper monitor drivers for your monitor. Usually xp or win9x just use the default plug and play monitor. Richard

on or off render to texture does not make any differencethanks for your advise

I have no particular driver delivered with that screen when I bought itshould there be any special drivers for Iiyama?

ok Direct X upgrade should not be a problem but I am afraid of upgrading my Video driver to 45.23 for 2 reasons : I am not a PC specialist and don't know how to do this ; and I have read on this forum other bad things happen with that new driver?are these Nvidia 5900 so bad compared to ATI cards?

thank you for your inputare Nvidia 5900 so bad compared to ATI cards?please look at other test I have made:I have installed FS2004 and FS2002 on my old computer P3 1Giga 256meg memory, Leadtech GE forceFX 32mega : no flickering at all in both gameson my new PC ( see config hereabove) I have installed FS2002 : no flickering at allon my new PC I have installed other games ( CD' given free with my 5900) : no flickeringon my new PC I have flickering apparently only with FS2004after making a lot of test ( in FS 2004 changing the sliders or checking/unchecking boxes, in Nvidia panel config changing the parameters of antialiasing, filtering ...etc), I have discovered that when I uncheck the box transform and lighting , the flickering disappears !! so the combination of my PC config+FS2004+T&L seems to be responsible for screen flickeringwhat do you think?patrick

Thanks for your input.T&L didnt help for me. The only thing it did when switching it off: Let my frame rate drop licke a rock! Its difficult to track down, as it doesnt seem so obvious. Dont think switching AA, refresh rate etc.... will help. Its something more deep.Lets see what the next bunch of drivers will bring.ByeJan

I have a eVGA GeForce 5900FX and have absolutely no problems.Make sure to upgrade to the 53.03 drivers.

It is not hard to do and can be undone if you ever want to go back (unlikely..)Go to the www. nvidia.com site and download the latest 52.16 or 53.03 driver.Follow the intructions to install. Restart your computer. There is not much to it.. you can uninstall from the Control Panel if you ever want to.. or take a checkpoint in WinXP and roll back to that point..

Bert

thank you for your answerI have downloaded 53.03 driverwhere are the instructions to install?
