Cessna 310 Ditches 13 mi from Hilo (Ran Out of Fuel)

Is there even a toilet on a C310?

correct about flying at a higher power setting in headwinds is more fuel efficient but I have to look into my books on what they suggest.
It is correct. One way to look at it is, well a headwind is always adverse, so physically it's impossible to burn less fuel than with no wind, obviously. But by increasing your speed you can lessen your time of exposure. Of course there will be a sweet spot somewhere, as burning excessively more fuel to increase speed will void the effect of savings.

At some point, max power becomes the sweet spot. I can't get some people to wrap their heads around that.

Well of course it is, I'd assume once the wind reaches a certain strength or goes even beyond that, I would guess. Hope my reasoning is right, but I'm glad if you correct me if I'm wrong. sig.gif

Some WW2 single seat fighters were fitted with a simple tube that ran to the outside of the aircraft. The exit had to be in an area iof moderately low pressure for obvious reasons. On a prototype it was inadvertently located in an area of very low pressure. The first time a test pilot tried to use it he was sucked firmly into it
In the King Air we have two of these and a toilet. One interesting thing though is that on some of the aircraft the urine corrodes the metal in the area of the outlet.

I would expect that from the chemical ammonia (the basic component of Pee). Pee left anywhere besides a plastic container can cause corrosion. The whole system should to be flushed after flight if anyone releaved themselves during the trip.
