Computer shuts down

Featured Replies

Ok, so i'm having a problem with fsx, and i have no idea on how to fix it.When i have startet fsx, and start flying, about 10-15 minutes go by (always in that time frame) and then my computer shuts down, with no warning, it just turns off.At first i thought it was because i was running Fraps, but i tested, and that's not the problem.I have a lot of both Payware and Freeware add-ons installed, don't know if that has something to do with it. Need some help here guys :)Computer specs:AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-core Processor 2.70 GHz2 GB RAMATI Radeon HD 5770I can also add, that this just started happening a couple of days ago, but before that, it sometimes crashed to desktop, and a message saying ''Your computer has run out of available memory'' popped up.

If it just shuts off like that, it sounds to me like an overheating issue. FSX is quite intensive and it will heat most PCs up a bit. If you don't have adequate cooling it may cause problems. I assume your PC is well ventilated? Have you checked the air filters for dust?

To be honest, i have no idea on what kind of cooling i have, and i havent opened my pc up in a while to check for dust, could try that and take a look :)

Might be worth taking a look. If its an air cooled unit (which it sounds like it) then over time the vents will suck in dust which will block the filters and reduce the airflow through the case to cool the components. I think what is happening with your PC is it has detected it is too hot and is shutting down as a safety measure to reduce risk of damage.Usually if it's software related the program will just crash to the desktop. A complete shutdown like that almost always points to a hardware problem of some kind, most likely excess heat.

FSX uses up to 3 GB of RAM so you might need another stick or reduce your settings in the fsx.cfg. You might also want to check out the post entitled Setting up FSX and How to Tune It. He has a section entitled: USING MORE/LESS or EQUAL to 2GIGS OF SYSTEM MEMORY IN WINDOWS XP x32 OR VISTA X32 with OOM and he tells you how to fix it - http://www.simforums.com/Forums/topic29041.html.Best regards,Jim

I actually just ordered 2 new RAM sticks, 2x4GB, lets hope that helps :) And thank you for your help :)

Depending on how old your MOBO is, it could be a component breaking down due to stress.I lost mine this week with the same symptoms you are having. 7 out of 10 capacitors on the motherboard were swollen. When this happens, the system will run for a while, and then when a load is placed on it, they can't keep up and the system shuts down.

Thank you.

Ahh. This happened to me too. My 2nd graphics card fan was blocked by a wire and it always overheated. Check and make sure the problem isn't overheating.Cheers!-Jared

Currently in flight school

Check your CPU temp with Real Temp, and check your GPU temps. Check your CPU cooler isn't clogged with dust. This is the most likely cause. If so, clean the dust of the fins. [Not with a vacuum cleaner. they generate static electricity that can zap your components]Shut downs can be symptomatic of many issues. I had an issue recently with a faulty ATX extender cable. Can be software or hardware. The only way is a process of elimination. Can be...CPU temp to high [Dust]GPU temp to highWindows issueDriver issueFSX issue [Does it do it with anything else?]Hard drive faultyCPU faultyGPU faultyPSU faulty [Check with a PSU tester]Motherboard faulty [Look for swollen or leaking capacitors]Motherboard being shorted out by something.
