December 2, 201114 yr Hello,as Aerosoft has released their Antarcitca X Scenery I'm wondering whether it's possible to fly there with the NGX. This does expecially include if the terminal procedures and the waypoints there are included in the NAV database. Is there someone out there who has tried this already and can report how it was to fly (and maybe even land) there? Thanks for your answers in advance guysEmanuel Hagen Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
December 2, 201114 yr Use FSX default ATC like what I do. It is a challenge to land on ice. I advice you use the 737-600.Aaron G. PMDG Boeing 737NGX Captain
December 2, 201114 yr Author I don't like FSX default ATC. Actually I hate it since I've tried Radar Contact, which I don't like anymore since I tried VATSIM.But what about the airports and waypoints in Antarctica? Does anyone know wheather they're included in the FMCs NAVdatabase? Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!

December 2, 201114 yr Author So nothing over there is in the database? Would be really sad, as flying sightseeing tours over there was the reason I've got the scenery for. Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
December 2, 201114 yr Antarctic flightsQantas operates flightseeing charters to Antarctica on behalf of Croydon Travel. It first flew Antarctic flightseeing trips in 1977. They were suspended for a number of years due to the crash of Air New Zealand Flight 901 on Mt Erebus in 1979. Qantas restarted the flights in 1994. Although these flights do not touch down, they require specific polar operations and crew training due to factors like sector whiteout which contributed to the Air New Zealand disaster. December 2, 201114 yr Author Will the Heading change to TRUE automatically ?There is no switch in the NGX for polar operations.Very good question, I'd also be interested in this. Does anyone know that? Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
December 2, 201114 yr Polar op's not modeld in the NGX. Ryan posted info in another thread some months back, regarding Northern canada op's. I assume the southern polar region will be the same. December 3, 201114 yr I've tried. The plane had difficulties with climing and reaching a good flight level. Navigating did not went well. The plane started drifting. Most difficult: navpoints and most airports are not in the database.Landing was fun, but not realistic. It's a hard choice between flying a great scenery or a great plane. The combination is not working for me. Martin Pampiermole
December 3, 201114 yr I thought about getting the Aerosoft Antartica scenery as well but then I thought the better of it. I only have the 737-NGX, MD-11 and 747-400x and I do not think any of those aircraft would be suitable for landing on ice. If Ice runways are accurately modeled in FSX I would think you would be slipping and sliding all over the place. Even if you did get down without cracking up the plane how would you take off with the plane slipping and sliding all over on takeoff? I think there is a good reason they use planes with Skis and Props down there. Paul Deemer
December 3, 201114 yr I have made a few flights in Antarctics. Went from Marambio to Rothera and then from Rothera to McMurdo in 737-600. Worked well for me to land on short gravel strips in both Marambio and Rothera. Adding custom waypoints to PMDG NAV database is easy. Flying by coordinates in FMC is also easy. in McMurdo I landed on the ice runway. Didn't have any problem with that but locating the runway was a challenge since TACAN there has limited range. Overall I liked the adventure and certainly would recommend to anyone considering taking their wings down to the South Pole wonderland.
