December 6, 201114 yr Hi I was just wondering what the engine start switches should be on, after engine start, takeoff and landing is it off all the time or continuous all the time. Thanks
December 6, 201114 yr Commercial Member Tutorial and the manuals would answer this question.Ground for ground start; CONT for takeoff, heavy precip and approach/landing. The rest you can find in the manual.CTRL + FThe manuals are searchable PDF. Kyle Rodgers
December 7, 201114 yr I myself, and I think it matches with typical SOP's and manuals, is:Start up enginesLeave Ign off during taxi.Cont. for takeoff up to 10000'On below 10000 or whenever nasty precip during the decent/climb. Patrick Houghton
December 7, 201114 yr FCOM V1 L10.8The following will be in reference to CONTEngine ignition must be on for: •takeoff•landing•operation in heavy rain•anti-ice operation. Sam Vaughan

December 7, 201114 yr Author Thanks for replying, I'm still trying to work my way through the manuals. Haha
December 7, 201114 yr It's in front of you on the steering yoke.I find this checklist very handy. Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry. December 7, 201114 yr Moderate to heavy rain, hail, sleet, and severe turbulence require START SWITCHES to FLT. The Boeing AFM says the START SWITCHES are ON for a rapid descent. There is no ON position, so one company I flew for used CONT, one used FLT. Take your pick on that one, I guess. Matt Cee
December 7, 201114 yr In flight simulator there is no reason to use CONT or FLT (if not for an windmilling restart). However, the logic of them is a bit different.CONT: it exist to be used in case of possible flame out (bad wheater or delicate flight phase)In CONT (continous) the spark/s selected by the ignition switch operate continously. In FLT both sparks work regardless ignition switch position.I think that CONT position is better, you can then select wic spark you want to use or if you want to use both (in very bad conditions).
