December 9, 201114 yr I'm confused by the instrument approach. Hopefully someone can put me straight. In the attached image it can be seen (please see attached image), that the instrument approach is via BLGRS, then CHRCL then VOYUK then the Runway 17R. Height is 2500' above RWY height. Speed is 180kts at BLGRS slowing to 170knts for CHRCL.As can be seen the heading is 314 turning on to 310 at LLU. So and this is the bit I do not understand. The aircraft has to turn left through 130 degrees to pick up the Localiser for 17R.As the distance from BLGRS is only about 10 miles from the RWY threshold, the aircraft seems not to have time to line up with the LOC and Glide Slope, but snakes about and flies over the top of the airfield. What am I doing wrong please?ThanksJohn
December 9, 201114 yr That's poor routing on ATC's part. There is no transition like that on the RW approach chart or in the sim.As long as you stay within 25 miles [edit] of the Louisville VOR [/edit] and above 3600 ft you could overfly BLGRS and maintain heading for 1 minute, then make a 180 degree right turn back to the localiser. Note that this is a made-up procrdure and does not reflect RW procedures. Here is a link to the approach chart- http://204.108.4.16/.../00239IL17R.PDFregards,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
December 9, 201114 yr As Joe says, there should have been a transition. You could put your own in by adding waypoints NABB then ISNU348/12.7 before BLGRS. If not, then the quickest way would be one waypoint BLGRS033/4 then BLGRS. This would give you a proper turn to intercept the ILS and would simulate radar positioning to it.Colin BJoe. Which link do you use for those charts? I find Vatsim Pilot Resource centre no longer works properly.
December 10, 201114 yr Begin the approach at the IAF (ABB) when not being vectored by ATC.The IAF would be listed as a transition in your FMC.Regards.Ernie.
