XP 10 Web Demo 1st Impressions

Featured Replies

Hi all,Firstly, I must say I have no allegiance to MS FSX nor am I anti XP, but have enjoyed FSX and its predecessors' for many years. I am fortunate that I have a decent rig with 3 x 24 monitors, TP2GO, Orbx, etc. I won't bore you with the complete specs.Like many, I've downloaded the XP 10 demo from their website, spent a good few hours getting my rig working with it and configuring my joystick, TrackiR. I really wanted it to blow me away.Whether it's my familiarity with FSX and / or all the Orbx addon's I have I can, at this moment, honestly say FSX has NO competition. Period. It was just a sheer pleasure getting back into the pilot seat in FSX.Just my opinion.D.

Hello Darren,I like you am an avid Flight Sim enthusiast with no allegiance to any company.I think it's a bit unfair to compare Stock, just released XP10 to FSX with Orbx add-ons.[which are fantastic btw]I certainly respect your opinion, but I think there is a lot to like about XP10, I think we need to give it some time.

I agree Patrick. I was going by marketing hype. Blades of grass up, etc. Let's give it time

As we all know, it is not 'fair' to compare stock and fsx with addons. One advantage that fsx has being older is that it's cheaper and always on special somewhere so for the equivilent price of xplane you can have fsx and some orbx goodness. Back to xplane. If I am lucky my discs will arrive in the next few days. Unfortunately they took 4 days to get from columbia to florida and they still have to get to NZ. I have asked a couple of times about scenery I I have got a link to a shop and I know about the french project. What I don't know is what is supposed to be good? E.g., orbx is referenced all the time for fsx and lots of people want orbx to come to xplane. Does that mean there is no equivalent of that quality available for xplane? I would like to up the eye candy of it somewhat.

Jason,Like you, I'm waiting for my copy of XPX to leave Florida. So, I'm still tinkering around with the demo. Since this is a completely new simulator, they have made substantial changes to the way the scenery is rendered. I own PNW from Orbx. It is quite good, but I can attest, XPX in the more rural areas can equal, and even surpass Orbx PNW. If you can crank up the sliders on this simulator, it's suddenly becomes amazing. The sense of place, forests, the clouds and weather all add up to make XPX very convincing.Having said all of that, some people will not like it, which is fine. FSX has some very interesting traits that make it quite desirable, I can understand people wanting to stick with it.
