December 22, 201114 yr I have changed the cloud quality from 32bit to DXT so I could compare the performance of each. However with the 32bit textures installed the filesize is around 5mb for the cirrus clouds but after installing the DXT it is still the same filesize. Viewing the properties of the supposed DXT texture file informs that it is 32bit.Is this correct or is there a problem with selecting DXT textures?ThanksEDITJust checked via DXTBmp and it informs me the files are 32bit !?!EDITThe cumulous01.bmp is displaying as DXT5 16 bit. Am I correct then that this is the only cloud texture file that is changed to DXT? The cirrus textures remain as 32bit?I looked in the manual and it mentions that the 3D quality settings affects only cumulous, stratus and wispy so I think I just found my answer.
December 22, 201114 yr Commercial Member Hi, only 3d clouds (cumulus, stratus, wispy) change for 32bitdxt not cirrus. Kind RegardsChris Willis
December 22, 201114 yr Hey Guys - this had me fooled as well and I officially reported the same issue. :(As a resolution, you might consider a small notification in the 32/DXT choice pane (and/or the mouse-over balloon) explaining this will change all clouds except cirrus. :( Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
December 22, 201114 yr Author Is there a reason then why the cirrus textures are left at 32bit? I do not know anything about graphics etc so there may be some obvious reason as to why they are not converted.thanks
December 22, 201114 yr Commercial Member Hi,3D Clouds is the term we use, all clouds except cirrus are 3D. We will do our best to make this less confusing. They are 32bit due to the very large stretch/scaling effect applied to these textures which reduces quality significantly with DXT compression (mainly pertaining to transparency channel).
