December 30, 201114 yr WOW!!!So for probably the past 15 years I have been a Creative guy when it came to my sound... I prefer dedicated sound cards to onboard not necessarily for quality but to move the sound processing to a separate chip. I usually had something in the X-Fi Extreme range... Recently my Creative has been giving me nothing but trouble on my XP64 machine. Optical out only working randomly... I tried drivers, uninstalling, re-installing but no matter what i did it was 50/50 if it would work on boot. (win 7 had no issues mind you...)So I finally decided to uninstall my Creative Card and spent 90 minutes uninstalling the drivers from all SEVEN of my boot options LMAO!@! I then popped in a brand new HTOmega eClaro PCIE card. (top of the line PCIE) and it was WELL WELL worth it!!! Drivers were super simple to install AND SET UP! Had it configured for Dolby Digital DTS LIVE in 30 seconds, receiver detected everything right away and the sound quality is superb!!! I was blown away just at the difference in the start up sound of Windows. FS is a different beast altogether. I am actually really surprised at the audible difference in sound quality... I wasn't shooting for a difference in quality, just something that worked but the HT Omega hands down destroys the Creative!!! Not to mention:7.1 Virtual speaker setuplow Frequency crossover!!! (love this as I can isolate ALL bass to my sub)3D Sound emulationfull 7.1 supportSwappable OpAmp!!! And the components of the HT Omega were like looking at the difference between the onboard components of an 8600SE card compared to a 580GTX! i am a true audiophile so for me this is absolutely huge... Couldn't be happier and wanted to share in case anyone else was debating a sound change...-P Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
December 30, 201114 yr Depends what you want the soundcard for.I use an M-Audio Delta 24/96 but its not for the benefit of FS. I use it for Reason and virtual instruments where low latency is a must. The improved playback and record quality in other apps is a bonus of course. December 30, 201114 yr Author At $180+ I hope it does more than just provide nice FS sounds!!For a true Audiophile it certainly does Jim!!! As I mentioned, I have 7 OS's on this box alone, 1 for sound processing/ video editing, 2 for FS (9 and X) , XP 32, XP 64 and Win 7 32 and 64 LOL Although for me the sound gains in FS alone would have been worth it :)Hey Glenn, If I wanted to connect my guitar to this what apps would you recommend for capture? December 31, 201114 yr In Vista and beyond, Microshaft removed the DirectSound hardware abstraction layer, making hardware sound acceleration no longer possible in Vista and W7. Hence there is little to no positive impact to CPU performance when using any add-on sound card with Vista and beyond. December 31, 201114 yr Ryan!!! OMG, Is your kid in college by now??? Long time no talk!!! Hope you and the family are well!!!Haha, about 13 months old... she's on vacation with mommy (actually near your neck of the woods) and took her first steps today! About the sound card, very interesting, I left my X-Fi when I gave away my new old system to a friend... (funny how that giving away thing works right? :) ) I'm using onboard at the moment, not bad. They all come in a multitude of versions, often bundled with the soundcard.Did you get any free software with it?The name(s) to look for in the bundled software are:CakewalkPro ToolsCubaseAbleton LiveAll of these will allow you to record as well as sequence. If you purely want sound capture and plaback this is pretty good and its free!http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/features-1.3-a Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
