VATSIM with the NGX Sound Question

Featured Replies

Hi guys.I was flying today KPDX-KSEA (actually, 1 hour aga) and EVERY TIME the controller transmitted I had to mute the game (Q key) and then reply, then unmute the game. This gets quite annoying. Does anyone have some times on what I can do to prevent this? Could I maybe transmit game audio through my Logitech Speakers, and then controller voice only through my headset or am I asking too much?

The separate locations thing is possible only if you have more than one sound card or a USB headset. (I love this btw, makes it really awesome)I guess I don't understand why you need to mute the game sound if you can hear the controller. Or can you hear the controller? Sorry, just not fully understanding. Is it that you can't hear the controller, or that you don't want the controller to hear your engines in the background?

Thanks!

I can hear the controller with the game sound on, but it's hard to understand. So, when I see that he's transmitting (I see the little Sqawkbox TX light) I mute the game sound.

Try a USB set of headphones with a mic, then the ATC can be directed via the headset.

Before you run out and get a USB headset + mic, consider this:Most motherboards these days (and, well, for the past 5 years or so) have an onboard Realtek chipset, which supports your standard miniplug headset + mic at front, and the usual stuff at the back. Caveat: You have to configure the chipset using the Realtek drivers to allow for separate front vs back in/out, the default is to override the back in/out if the front in/out is used. And, if you have a separate soundcard, there is nothing stopping you from also using the Realtek chipset for your headset/mic.I've been doing this for years with great success (I'm no audiophile, the Realtek chipset is "good enough" for me for a headset).
