Jagged Coastlines ??

Featured Replies

I have noticed that all of my coastlines are jagged .I have an ATI 9800 Pro 256 CAT 3.10 with AA @ 4 and AF @ 8,autogen.xml renamed and I have most sliders maxed and most things checked. If anyone has a tweak worth trying I would appreciate it.ThanksAndy

It seems that this is a "can't have you cake and eat it too" problem in FS9 like many others. If you set your water effects to high, you get great waves and moon/sun reflections, but the resolution of the coastlines decreases. Reducing water effects will sharpen the coasts, but make the pretty water less...pretty.Unless you're talking about something completely different. How about a screen shot?Best,sg

I have my water effects on low already. I will post a screen shot later this evening EST when I get home. Thanks for your input ...Andy

Take a look and see if you know of a fix ....Andy

Sorry here it is again ..

That doesn't look to me like anything outside the "normal" realm of FS9 graphics. You should be able to correct it by tinkering with FS9 settings and your display card settings.David

I also noticed, that coastlines in FS2002 looked much more real.We have to live with those jaggies in FS 2004. They have nothing to do with your graphics card or your settings. I had them with my old GeForce 3 Ti200 and have them with my new Radeon 9800 128MB Pro - and I have them with any kind of setting.Wolfgang

Well I did find a fix for the jaggies.I turned off the water texture from low to none and IMHO the water looks better and the jaggies are gone.Give it a try and let me know !!!Andy

Andy, I noticed this defect in a number of pre-release screenshots from Microsoft. It looked so bad, I assumed it was because they hadn't finished it yet. Unfortunately they still haven't finished it. It occurs when water effects/reflections are enabled. Reduce the water settings and you should see the proper coastlines. I got so fed up with this defect that I now run FS without water reflections - which is a shame, as the reflections can look quite good. If anyone knows of a fix for this I'd like to hear it. Assuming there is no fix then this is one of the defects that should be fixed with a patch. Best regards, Chris

Wow! Can't say I have noticed this myself...I guess I don't spend my time flying down over the coastline like that and therefore I don't see it. Why you would turn off water effects just to get rid of a defect that can't be seen with normal flying is beyond me. Or maybe its that it doesn't appear at all for me...Don't know...Haven't checked. All I can say its not something that screams out to me so much that I would consider turning off the water effects/reflections. But I guess that's just me.

Yep - that's what I meant, but no waves effects or reflection. You've got Cake, and you're hungry.
