Addon idea: Flashlight X?

Featured Replies

I have no idea if this is possible as an addon for FSX, but if it is, it should be pretty simple for someone who knows what they're doing?Wouldn't it be cool to have some sort of "flashlight" that you can turn on and it follows your mouse around so you can find your way to the master battery and light switches at night? It could even be extended to the exterior model to do a night time walkaround of sorts :) Although this may be out of the scope of the FSX 3D model, I know there's no actual light source. Those new 3D lights we're seeing on various aircraft now got me thinking though. If they can illuminate the runway, can they illuminate the VC?

That's a fun idea. I don't know if it's possible, but it'd be cool to have if so.

It might be possible. Normally, a 3D object in FSX cannot illuminate another 3D object. However, a developer did prove it could be done. He created a streetlight which shined onto a vehicle (pretty cool - perhaps another hidden gem of FSX). Not sure if one could animate it though (move the light around) as one walked about. However (always seems to be howevers), Orbx has a little addon called 'BoB' which you use to move around like a 1st person point-of-view. Used to get a street view of their scenery. Now if one could attach the light effect to something like a BoB you would have your "BoB light", :Idea:Clutch

Yeah, I love Bob! Problem is, Bob would be loaded, not your aircraft, so the flashlight is of no real use. It would need to be an addon that can be used with any aircraft. The more I think about it, the more it seems impossible, but we've said that about many things before haven't we :)

Best use of the Flashlight would be for battery failure during night flight (esp. IFR).Cheers,- jahman.

this is really coo, it would be cool if someone would do it.

It would be possible to build into a model for use in the cockpit, but unfortunately not as a universal "plugin" that could be used with any aircraft, nor could it be used outside.

Absolutely! Maybe even with TrackIR support, like having one of those lights strapped to your forehead.

This is pretty much how I understood it with my limited knowledge of FS voodoo. I do hope some developers stumble upon this thread though :)

Yes! Good thinking!Add EZDOK: The lightspot moves as you maneuver the aircraft! And turbulence effects too!

Or like a regular flashlight under the ole' armpit.Cheers,- jahman.
