This morning I uninstalled the Flight! beta.I do not want to be a part of this fiasco.I am totally disappointed with what has happened to this great title, one of the few pieces of code that microsoft have produced that had the ability to win hearts and minds.Back to FSX for me, with one eye on what happens with Xplane, and you can be sure that if I go with Xplane in the future it will be on Linux.Saddened by the direction Microsoft have taken and I worry about where this company will be in five years.

Don't worry about Microsoft, about 3/4 of their revenue comes from their business applications like SQL & Exchange and the Windows Server operating systems.Of the remaining quarter, a small percentage is gaming with Flight being a small percentage of that.

HelloFive years ago they were top dog, they are now falling fast.An old company with old outdated ideas, constantly playing catch up with more agile competitors. They totally miss read where the internet was going, and never got to grips with mobile computing. The world has moved on and Mr Balmer is bewildered by it all.

The point I was trying to make the point that they make most of their revenue from their dominant position in the business software market and there aren't many signs that they are losing much ground here. True, they're not 'cool' and they struggle in the trendy Internet marketplace where they are outmanouvered by smaller companies but their business software licensing will keep them going for a long time to come.Windows Vista was a dog but Windows 7 is a great operating system (like it's 2008 R2 server equivelant).Believe me, I wish their future was dependent on us simmers switching to Flight :)

Yes MS is running around trying to copy everyones ideas and if it's too hard for them (ie most of the time) then they get their billions to pay lawyers to see if they can blackmail/extort them with patents they they never developed themselves. They're too big to die out anytime soon but they are definitely on a downhill slope. They have upset too many ppl and made too many enemies.

I think that's a sensible approach. Stick with FSX and keep an eye on the other sims (including Flight and Prepar3D). I'd actually be tempted to purchase X-Plane 10 to keep a close eye on it and start to familiarise myself with it. There are some very nice add-ons for X-plane now, and many developers are showing an interest in developing content for it, such as PMDG.FSX graphcis were never exceptional and now they are starting to look dated. There will come a time when one of the other sims will be better, and people will start moving over to it. I think people are upset now because the future of their hobby is insecure.
