January 9, 201214 yr Hey guys. So, I spent the weekend reading about different people raving about how good Lockheed Martin's Prepar3d is compared to FSX. I decided to try it for a month, paid the 10 bucks. I learned how to install the PMDG 737NGX, really easy, although it didn't work 100%, probably because it didn't write the DLL.XML with the correct information. The pressurisation font was weird, and I had no HUD, but everything else looked fine.I was thinking about ditching FSX and making Prepar3d my default platform, I loved that I could finally Alt-Tab to Windows and back to FS without any problems, that alone was worth it. But then I read some posts here at Avsim talking about differences in how the FDE values reacted in both sims. It seems that after some testing they noticed the values that made an addon fly by the numbers in FSX made it wrong in Prepar3d. So I decided to test the PMDG 737NGX in both platforms to see if I could spot or feel any difference.I recorded with Fraps the same maneuvers in both sims, the aircraft is exactly the same, same configuration, weight, fuel, settings, so it should be visible if there is any differences. I didn't test it during cruise, it was just a quick takeoff, turn around and land, and I don't have video editing skills, so sorry for the bad quality.Heres the linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-2cGtlmCCUOne thing I noticed is that the aircraft went from Flight Idle to Ground Idle after touchdown in FSX, but in Prepar3d it stayed @ 30%. I don't know if that has anything to do with my controls.Tell me what you think guys! I'm pretty sure the PMDG developers won't comment this, since they don't have any interest in porting their aircrafts for Prepar3d, at least that's what I understood from the last post they talked about it. Maybe I got it wrong.Take care Alexis Mefano
January 9, 201214 yr HUD works fine in P3D. You just have to manually install and reference the HUD dll correctly in P3D's dll.xml(The 737NGX's FSX installer does not give the Option to install automatically to P3D)
January 9, 201214 yr well to me it seems like FSX is the winner.BTW you have a lot of stutter/Michael Michael Moe
January 9, 201214 yr Author I imagined the HUD thing would be easy to fix. The PMDG is back to FSX, I'll leave Prepar3d on experimentation for a longer time before I make the move.About the stutter, it's because Fraps is recording a 1920X1200 screen, it takes a lot of resources. Alexis Mefano
January 10, 201214 yr I get excellent performance with the PMDG 737 in both FSX & P3d, but its way smoother in Prepar3d. Also textures are crisper and no blurries, So its P3d for me. Ive spent the last week porting all my addons to it, and despite a few issues here are there which required manuall editiing, everything works great.Just did a flight in the NGX from NY to Chigago and everything worked perfectly. Im a happy simmer!Rob
January 10, 201214 yr I'm lucky enough to own a full license of P3D (I work for LM). This sounds nuts but I installed it and never used it. I exclusively use the NGX and Squawkbox. Never attempted to port them over. Seeing the NGX running smooth may have convinced me to switch over permanently. Watching the vid through YouTube and an iPad doesn't do a comparison very much justice for me personally. The water textures in P3D seem to be cranked up a little more than FSX. Not sure if it looks better or worse. Thanks for uploading this. Chuck Edited January 10, 201214 yr by vdubbin Chuck Biggins

January 10, 201214 yr Author I didn't notice any difference between P3D and FSX, and looks like you guys also have not. That's nice to know, so I can actually think about moving to this platform someday.I would wait a little longer, to check that it doesn't make any other addon fly incorrectly, according to someone I don't remember who, it does happen, and he proved it messing with the fde files. If that's the case, I would wait until my favorites addons have official adaptations to P3D. Alexis Mefano
