CFG-Tweaks for better performance

Hello again!I have a very good system (signature) but I get only 18 FPS averaged at Aerosoft Mega Airports. The other thing is where you have fsx installed. There is plenty of info regarding this on this and other forums, and it really pays to have FSX out of the default dir X86. A dedicated drive for your OS and FSX is the way to go.Forget the frame rate, look for smoothness. I never use shift Z, I always do test flights in demanding areas like Mega Amsterdam or AS EDDF. If it is smooth, that will do. looking at the frame rate can make you spend most of your FSX time tweaking, Shift Z will differ everytime.Others will chime in here, but thought I would add my 10 cents worh.Regards

I had the same issues until I used Bojote's tweaks. The only thing I didn't see was Building and Trees per cell tweaks. I have mine at like 200 each. Not in front of my .CFG but try Google to get the code.

The other thing is where you have fsx installed. There is plenty of info regarding this on this and other forums, and it really pays to have FSX out of the default dir X86. A dedicated drive for your OS and FSX is the way to go.Forget the frame rate, look for smoothness. I never use shift Z, I always do test flights in demanding areas like Mega Amsterdam or AS EDDF. Hi DavidIf I am not mistaken it looks like you have 2 graphics cards installed on your PC so it seems to me the cfg file is not corrupt so do not rebuild it.If this should not be right that you have two cards then yes there might be something wrongThx Ian Edited January 14, 2012 by ICMC

Hi DavidIf I am not mistaken it looks like you have 2 graphics cards installed on your PC so it seems to me the cfg file is not corrupt so do not rebuild it.If this should not be right that you have two cards then yes there might be something wrongThx Ian

We love this hobby and we want to make it as good an experience as possible for all of us.Some tweaks are good others not so good. But this is the thing some are really good only for some. There are so many parameters in Windows and on top of that in FSX and thendon't forget the addons. The system is just to complex to get it right for allBut there is still hope (LOL)Thx Ian

OK, thank you for you answers! I now found another thing, that could be a performance problem:My processor is actually overclocked to 4,2 GHz. With CPU-Z I found out, that it sometimes run at only 1,6 GHz. Could that be a problem? (And how can I fix that?...)Regards

Go here http://www.kegetys.net/misc/ and download d3d antilag. Just drop the files in your main fsx folder. Also at low fps, it will seem waaay smoother because it removes almost every stutter. It's also a good external frame limiter, i can't live without it now!

There is hope Ian, well I think there is. I am at the stage where I think I have FSX where I want it. As long as I don't do smething silly like change something i should not. Thinking about getting some gaffer tape and taping my hands to the computer chair. :)Regards

That would be the chip "throttling" itself. Much as a commercial jet only uses the power it needs for takeoff, the newer Intel chips only use the power (clock speed) they need. I'm OC'ed to 4.6 and basically, when I'm idle at Windows desktop, it will mainly stay at 1.6 and occasionally jump to 4.6. It's only "turning on" when it actually processes something. It is totally normal for it to be at 1.6GHz, especially with no programs running.I don't know the technical details of what's going on inside the chip, but I do know it's doing that for efficiency.
