CFG-Tweaks for better performance

Recommended Posts

Hello again!I have a very good system (signature) but I get only 18 FPS averaged at Aerosoft Mega Airports. I do not want to change/OC my system, I am only searching for some tips or tweaks for my FSX.cfg.// This file was tweaked on Jan 06, 2012 at 12:29 GMT using Bojote's automated FSX Tweaking & Tuning Service// Your 'original' FSX.CFG file was backed up at http://www.venetubo.com/fsx/4a129ece6f8d9f6523a89d5ea698da6b/backup/fsx_backup.cfg// This file is optimized as follows: 4 core(s), CPU speed 4, HT 0, GPU 4, PREF 2// You can visit Bojote's FSX Tweaking & Tuning service at http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX David,I did a quick scan, and found a couple of things, you have 2 entries of your display card, which means your FSX.cfg could be corrupted. Delete the config and let FSX rebuild one. The other thing is where you have fsx installed. There is plenty of info regarding this on this and other forums, and it really pays to have FSX out of the default dir X86. A dedicated drive for your OS and FSX is the way to go.Forget the frame rate, look for smoothness. I never use shift Z, I always do test flights in demanding areas like Mega Amsterdam or AS EDDF. If it is smooth, that will do. looking at the frame rate can make you spend most of your FSX time tweaking, Shift Z will differ everytime.Others will chime in here, but thought I would add my 10 cents worh.Regards

I had the same issues until I used Bojote's tweaks. The only thing I didn't see was Building and Trees per cell tweaks. I have mine at like 200 each. Not in front of my .CFG but try Google to get the code.

Hi DavidIf I am not mistaken it looks like you have 2 graphics cards installed on your PC so it seems to me the cfg file is not corrupt so do not rebuild it.If this should not be right that you have two cards then yes there might be something wrongThx Ian

Thank you Julian! The two Display Device entries are because of my two monitors. And you are right with your second point, I should really stop watcjing the FPS. ;-)

DavidCheck this post and have a look at the CFG file and comparehttp://forum.avsim.net/topic/359237-just-want-to-share-these-nice-pics/Just make sure that some of the settings are very ATI alligned and maybe not suitable for NVIDIA. But most tweaks are very good tweaks in the CFGCheers Ian

Here is mine. Please note, if you want enviroment sound like hearing the wind blowing or if you use 3rd party AI sounds from Flight 1 or A. Constable, change the SOUND_LOD=1 to SOUND_LOD=0Now I get very smooth flights, no stutters, and can fly into any major airport even KSEA. When tweaking, do 1 tweak at a time, then test. I see you are using ******* (hey-sus) config, that's good, but not guranteed, and he will tell you that.[sOUND]AmbientUIMusicVolume=-6.000000PrimaryDevice={56E6F450-B289-4F04-9077-3E3746C45BCA}VoiceDevice={56E6F450-B289-4F04-9077-3E3746C45BCA}SOUND=1SOUND_QUALITY=2SOUND_LOD=0UISound=1AmbientUI=0SOUND_FADER1=0.500000SOUND_FADER2=0.500000SOUND_FADER3=0.500000SOUND_FADER4=-0.500000AmbientUIMusic=FSX01[Display]RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=1.2RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=1.0RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.2RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=1.2ChangeTime=4.000000TransitionTime=4.000000ActiveWindowTitleTextColor=255,255,255ActiveWindowTitleBackGroundColor=0,28,140,64NonActiveWindowTitleTextColor=255,255,255NonActiveWindowTitleBackGroundColor=24,33,87,64InfoUpperRightTextColor=255,0,0InfoUpperRightBackGroundColor=0,0,0,0InfoLowerLeftTextColor=255,255,255InfoLowerLeftBackGroundColor=255,0,0,128InfoLowerRightTextColor=255,255,255InfoLowerRightBackGroundColor=255,0,0,128InfoBrakesEnable=TrueInfoParkingBrakesEnable=TrueInfoPauseEnable=TrueInfoSlewEnable=TrueInfoStallEnable=TrueInfoOverspeedEnable=TrueBLOOM_EFFECTS=0SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=70TextureMaxLoad=30UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30WideViewAspect=True[Main]User Hi JulianThats's why we are all together in here to help each other. At least that is what I think. We love this hobby and we want to make it as good an experience as possible for all of us.Some tweaks are good others not so good. But this is the thing some are really good only for some. There are so many parameters in Windows and on top of that in FSX and thendon't forget the addons. The system is just to complex to get it right for allBut there is still hope (LOL)Thx Ian

OK, thank you for you answers! I now found another thing, that could be a performance problem:My processor is actually overclocked to 4,2 GHz. With CPU-Z I found out, that it sometimes run at only 1,6 GHz. Could that be a problem? (And how can I fix that?...)Regards

Go here http://www.kegetys.net/misc/ and download d3d antilag. Just drop the files in your main fsx folder. Also at low fps, it will seem waaay smoother because it removes almost every stutter. It's also a good external frame limiter, i can't live without it now!

There is hope Ian, well I think there is. I am at the stage where I think I have FSX where I want it. As long as I don't do smething silly like change something i should not. Thinking about getting some gaffer tape and taping my hands to the computer chair. :)Regards

That would be the chip "throttling" itself. Much as a commercial jet only uses the power it needs for takeoff, the newer Intel chips only use the power (clock speed) they need. I'm OC'ed to 4.6 and basically, when I'm idle at Windows desktop, it will mainly stay at 1.6 and occasionally jump to 4.6. It's only "turning on" when it actually processes something. It is totally normal for it to be at 1.6GHz, especially with no programs running.I don't know the technical details of what's going on inside the chip, but I do know it's doing that for efficiency.

David, I think you need to dis-able CPU speedStep in the Bios. I think that is the one. NickN mentions it in his FSX tuning guide.http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html

I could notice one thing that was wrong and could be causing low FPS! You have set PoolSize=0. What you should use is something like:[bUFFERPOOLS]UsePools=1PoolSize=100000000RejectTreshold=131072For old graphics cards like mine use: [bUFFERPOOLS]UsePools=0RejectTreshold=131072

So you do not think that this decreases performance?

Disabling vsync can help, but you may have problems with tearing when you pan around.

Hi Rick, it is the COOLER MASTER HAF 922. A good solid case, plenty of cooling.Regards
So you do not think that this decreases performance? This sadly did not work for me :-(
BufferPools is trial and error. user pools=0 benifits older systems. There is a thread by PJ on the MSFSX forum, PJ explains in detail the pro's and con's of Buffer Pools. Will try and find the link for you.Edit. Good read http://forum.avsim.net/topic/347612-stutters-at-my-wits-end/page__hl__bufferpoolsRegards

I have no found the best value for me: I just set PoolSize=0 in [bUFFERPOOLS]. No the frames only sometimes go down to 16 FPS in Frankfurt. (Although my system actually is less than a month old...)No I am searching for a good FPS limiter. I have founf FPS_Limiter_0.2.rar, but I do not know how to open/use it. Would be great if you had some tips, BUT OTHER TWEAKS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!Cheers

I don't use a limiter, never have. I have FSX locked @30, which seems to work very well for me. others who use a limiter may chime in here, as have little experience with it.

Good choice. That's my other case. The only negative with that case is (IMO) that there is no filter on the 200mm side fan.

Go here http://www.kegetys.net/misc/ and download d3d antilag. Just drop the files in your main fsx folder. Also at low fps, it will seem waaay smoother because it removes almost every stutter. It's also a good external frame limiter, i can't live without it now!
When you say just drop it in the main fsx folder...do you mean the fsx.cfg file or Microsoft Flight Simulator X executable ? And when do you change the FPS limit before it is installed or after?Sorry but I am struggling with all these settings also...thanks
