Need help with PC Specs for FSX

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so please forgive me for any mistakes i make :DAnyways, I would like to order a custom built computer from a supplier from eBay. As i have little experience in terms of computer components graphics cards etc. I would very much appreciated it if any of you chaps could help me out in determining the right components for my PC.I will be looking at running and using FSX most of the time along with add on packages like orbx and PMDG and a bit of FPS games like BF3 or COD. Here are the specs of the computer as well as it's upgradable parts: -Intel Core i7 2600k Quad Core CPU 3.4GHZ, 8MB Cache, Socket LGA 1155 -Intel Original Cooling Fan with Heat Sink -ASRock Z68M/USB3 mATX Board or ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 -Kingston Hyper X 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory-1TB 7200RPM SATA3 -Nvidia GeForce GTX560 1GB -Intergrated Sound Card -Dual Layer DVD Writer -Intergrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet -Windows 7 Home Premuim 64bit -CF-341 Midi Tower ATX casing with 550W Power Supply With the upgraded Motherboard, the total cost of the computer would cost $1143.90 including the OSHere's the link as well:http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360405160013?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649If you could please help determine if it will run FSX and other programs smoothly and recommend any betterparts, that would be greatly appreciated. My Budget is set around $1200Thanks :D

That's fairly similar to my computer, which runs FSX pretty well, but if I could change one thing on my computer it would be the graphics card. I'd recommend you get the next graphics card up from the 560. (However, FSX is pretty processor-dependent, so upgrading that would be good, too)I don't have much experience with other programs, but I think that anything that runs FSX well will run (almost) anything else well.

RashBA couple of points - go for a full size tower if you can - the airflows are usually better and they are easier to fiddle with. Try to get one with at least 3 x 120 mm fans.I would upgrade the psu to at least 750w for just a wee bit of power in reserve. (Buy a good brand)Likewise a full size ATX mobo IMO is much better than a mATX - easier to get to components - bigger - so airflows are better. When you go to change that video card you'll thank the day you ordered a full size ATX mobo.If you want to overclock you may need to change the cooler, I use a thermaltake liquid cooler but some air coolers are just as good - but if it's fitted now, you won't have to do it later.Otherwise looks good.RegardsPeterH

Thanks for the help and advice chaps :DI've actually decided to buy my own parts and build a computer myself for the experience and to acquire new skills as i haven't built acomputer before. I'll probably want to build around the time when the ivy bridge processors and compatible motherboards come out orwhen the sandy bridge proccesors and other parts become cheaper which should leave me enough time to save up for some qualitycomponents. Thanks for the help, I'll your advice's in mindRegards,

Hi,Do NOT waste your money on a system that will be old in less than 3 months.I can't stress it enough, WAIT FOR IVY BRIDGE!Ivy Bridge will be well worth the wait. Same with the Kepler GPU's following soon behind the Intel CPU's.

They'll be worth the wait for sure, because then Sandy Bridge will be cheaper and I'll get one :)An i7 will not be "old" in 3 months. I can assure you.

I didn't intend to imply that the i7's would be old. They will simply be replaced by the newest line of chips. It is not very feasable to go and pay 1000+ $$ on a computer that will have older technology when you can simply save your money and wait for the latest and greatest technology.-Also, the Ivy Bridge overclocking potential is great. With lower watt consumption per clock, OC'ing these to 5GHZ might be attained much more easily.

Thanks Alain,They accepted me in a very weak moment, similiar to what the Captain of the Costa Concordia did when he lined up to take the run by that island. :Shocked:Kind regards,
