Shutting down background progammes

Featured Replies

I seem to remember a programme that allowed you close down any running programmes and background. You could assign various settings in profiles say one for fs4 and one for fsx. Any pointers would welcome.Cheers

It sounds as though 'Gamebooster' could be what your after.I have to admit to using for a year or so, but have recently stopped. There have been quite a few posts concerning these type apps and whether make any difference at all to FS performance, and after mulling over some of these ,i decided that GB and others of this type probably make no discernible difference, they probably don't do any harm either, but I no longer bother ,(just yet another app to start at the beginning of a sim session)My FS9 continues on its merry way ,as it always has ie a stutter here, a smooth bit there ,a blurry bit sometimes,a clear bit as well.It flies OKAndy

Yes, I use Gamebooster 3.2, and I like it very much. Saves you all the time of manually shutting down all these excess programs. You can choose which programs you want to shut down as well.

The software you are looking for is Alacrity PC by Ken Salter.Cheers,. jahman.

I will second what Jahman says - AlacrityPC has been around for years, is very configrable, both for shutting down services and default auto-startup programs, freeing up and defragging RAM, and will then start any other program you need, like TrackIR, ASE, FSX or whatever. It is also free, and doesn't blast you with big, obnoxious ads :-http://alacritypc.ke...m/download.html

I'm not so sure about this stuff. I've tried them and I can't see any difference in performance whatsoever. Obviously you want to turn off background defragging and anti-virus scanning etc but you don't need one of these apps for it, and turning off funny Windows services really doesn't make any difference at all in my experience.

Or try this puppy - the free version works fine.http://www.gzero.com/gboost/home.html
