January 25, 201214 yr I am just getting into FSX and noticed the landing lights on the aircraft are pathetic.I'm just wondering what my options are?I read in a forum post that PMDG also sell the Shockwave 3D lights, is this correct?ThanksDaniel
January 25, 201214 yr Hi Daniel,The lights on the PMDG NGX are really good stock(IMHO the best in FSX for an addon). You might try just the NGX without the shockwave lights first. Scott KGPI
January 25, 201214 yr IMO, the NGX stock 3D volumetric lighting (landing, taxi, strobes, beacons, and nav) far surpass the Shockwave lights in their visual appearance, especially during daytime. The NGX external lighting even illuminates the ground. Shane Gavin
January 25, 201214 yr Stock lights suck IMO.I also tried Shockwave 3D Lights with the NGX but got only a small improvement. --------------------- Gabriel Diaz

January 25, 201214 yr In what way are you dissatisfied? What do you think the lighting should look like? Not realistic at allFortunately and thanks to this topic I decided to give another chance to 3D lights and using the settings suggested by digger57 in his topic now they look amazing. :( --------------------- Gabriel Diaz

January 25, 201214 yr I own the Shockwave lights, and they look too bright in my opinion when used with the NGX. I do use them though with the 747.For comparison, here is a video showing the real world landing lights from a 737. The PMDG lights look closer to this, and the Shockwave lights are obviously way brighter than the real ones. If you want unrealistically bright lighting, then by all means use the Shockwave lights. January 25, 201214 yr At least with SW I can see the light beam, with stock lights all what I see is their reflection in the ground, where is the realism in that? --------------------- Gabriel Diaz
January 25, 201214 yr Light "beams" aren't particulary visible in real life unless there is a good amount of moisture in the air, such as with fog or mist. Anyways, my only problem with the Shockwave lights is how overly bright they are. If their brightness could be cut in half, or even down to 35% or so, I think they would look more realistic. Shane Gavin
January 25, 201214 yr With the stock lights you can't see the light beam even under the worst fog conditions.Try it yourself if you think I'm wrong. --------------------- Gabriel Diaz
January 25, 201214 yr Either way, there is going to be a trade off. The Shockwave lights look unrealistic during the daytime Shane Gavin
