February 2, 201214 yr Does anyone know approx how many users there are of FSX? I imagine developers would have some idea. Just curious. Wilbert
February 3, 201214 yr That seems a difficult question to answer since FSX is so unlimited in its use. For instance, you'd have to consider how many licenses were sold by MS, how many are actually used, and how many users beyond the license holder use the simulator.Furthermore, there's the question of what percentage we, the community, represent of the total FSX users. Some FSX users aren't even in the knowing that you can add planes or new scenery into FSX. Some believe it truly is, what it is. I know I accidentally discovered AVSIM when I first started playing after I began searching for information on FS 2000.With that said, I don't even know if you could draw even a loose guess of what the user base would be. Just my .02 I believe this type of uncertainty is what fuels developers such as MS to develop new software titles that come packaged with multiplayer, tokens, rewards, online sharing, etc to better track that number you speak of. February 3, 201214 yr The official figure at present is 6,035,675 according to Microsoft's internal FSX investigation team. Don't ask me how I know....
February 4, 201214 yr Author 5-10, give or take a few........WOW! I think 5-10 thousands sounds about right...........The official figure at present is 6,035,675 according to Microsoft's internal FSX investigation team. Don't ask me how I know....Since we are only speculating - That's quite a bit of cash if you average $40 - $50 per sale.Seriously, I wonder how talented developers organize a team to produce quality addons such as scenery, and aircraft for FSX if they had no idea of the investment returns. Take for example FSDT, PMDG, Captain Sim and others - how do they go about doing their thing without some pretty good idea how much they will profit? Wilbert

Take for example FSDT, PMDG, Captain Sim and others - how do they go about doing their thing without some pretty good idea how much they will profit? They try a first product, look at download figures for quality freeware, discuss with others developpers, feedback from users of their first products..... Then open their wallets and takes a business risk if they believe in their ideas....Its easier for the following ones as if some companies can survive on their sales this proves the business model works.
