February 11, 201214 yr Guys,I currently have a 28 I-Inc monitor at 1920x1200. I was wondering if anyone here is using a large HDTV (1080p) as a monitor? How big of a resolution can you go, and is the resolution quality good? Ithinking on say a 37 inch TV.
February 12, 201214 yr I've been using a 32" HDTV at 1080p. The size is nice compared to the $ of a 30" monitor. I think a 37-40" would be a good size too. Since the resolution will be the same (1920x1080), the pixels will be spread further apart. In my experience higher antialiasing is required to reduce jaggies. I'm using 32xs. If your upgrading, make sure your vid card is up to the task of higher AA settings. IMHO
February 14, 201214 yr Hi Johnny,I run a 40 inch 1920 x 1080 and love it. Pictures are in my signature.Kind regards,
February 14, 201214 yr 40 inch 1920 1080 samsung. Sweet, but not quite as crisp as a smaller monitor due to its lesser pixel density, as mentioned. If you haven't tried it, I recommend it. Also make sure you have track ir! Oz Sim Rig: MSI RTX3090 Suprim, an old, partly-melted Intel 9900K @ 5GHz+, Honeycomb Alpha, Thrustmaster TPR Rudder, Warthog HOTAS, Reverb G2, Prosim 737 cockpit. February 14, 201214 yr I would like to see one of the new 4K displays soon. Four times as many pixels!Although, framerate will likely take a hit from so many pixels... Edited February 14, 201214 yr by benorg
February 15, 201214 yr Thank you so much guys. I got a Sony 40 inch and this thing is a beauty...Expensive, yes, but very well worth it!

The screen resolution on the 40" LCD TV looks crisp and clear. I have heard though that it's not as good as a monitor. As you know I have the same exact computer as you including the box. I see you put a fan in every location. I never added any to mine and just used the ones that came with the box. Have had no problems with heat but guess I should consider adding a few in the future just in case....Best regards,Jim
February 17, 201214 yr ..traded 3X 22" TriplH2go for 42" Plasma ... & will never look back .... :Peace:

I guess we picked the right parts to build with as they are still state of the art, more or less, over a year later and still have a few months to go before anything new will really eclipses them. That does not happen too often these days. Is everything working smoothly?Yup, this huge lug of a thing looks like the top of a Mountie's Crown Vic, that's for sure. The 40in LCD 1920 x 1080 resolution combined with the AA_Mode_Method_supervcaa_64x_4v12 Nvidia Inspector settings render FSX flawlessly. With Track IR it is very immersive.I guess I got carried away with the fans. There are altogether 1 x 230mm led, 3 x 200mm led, 1 x 140mm led, 4 x 120mm led plus the GPU and PSU fans going at any one time. It's surprisingly quiet though, and keeps everything idling in the 30s, Prime 95 at mid 60s and FSX in the mid 50s and low 60s.The neighbourhood lights do not dim yet when I switch it on, so there is still a bit of headroom left! 8PKind regards,

With Track IR it is very immersive.Hi Stephen: I've toyed around with the idea of a large hdtv vs multiple monitors....but I'm always curious about how far back I 'should' sit for my eyes to render (focus) everything and fully enjoy the immersive experience, while also not frying my retinas, lol. Has this been an issue for you? below is a little table I found online with distance suggestions....5' isn't that far but still. Heck, we all probably sit too close to our regular monitors anyway. I would really like to go with one screen, instead of messing about with lots of multi monitor setup, etc....but at this age I can't afford to be visiting the eye doctor more than I already do. (I guess all that 'get back from the tv' my mother used to yell at me really did stick in the brain :LMAO:also, how's the overall field of view? Thanks! 576 resolution 720 1080 32" inches 8' feet 6' 4' 37" 10' 7' 5' 40" 10.5' 8' 5' 42" 11' 8' 5.5' 46" 12' 9' 6' 50" 13' 10' 6.5' 52" 13.5' 10' 7' 65" 17' 13' 8.5' * The above is the minimum sitting distance from a 1080p TV ✈ Alan ✈
February 17, 201214 yr Hi Alan,While lying on the floor watching "Robin Hood with Richard Green", I remember my Momma telling me to get back away from the old black and white 21 inch Rogers Majestic. I now sit at a normal 5 ft by 3 foot desk with the 40 inch LCD about 2 feet from the front, which would make it about 3 feet from me, more or less. Here is what it looks like (except for more recent computer changes):Just had my eyes checked and except for changing to variable lenses (which I hate) they much the same as they have been for years. If that is damaging my eyes there is no indication of that being so as I see very well close up and do not have headaches or anything like that. But Alan, don't do what I do if you have the slightest concern! Hard to flight sim while blind!

Hard to flight sim while blind!Ok, thanks Stephen, good to know that it's still possible to maintain all in focus 'to the eye' at that distance....lol, 21in tv! Yeah, we were never far enough back in their opinion, I suppose....Even when I just upgraded to a 40in Philips for the living room, and I swear it felt like I was in a one person Disney amusement ride, everything looming large. I imagine the enlarged scene makes up for more limited sim field of view vs the multiple monitors?(I also see we share the same desk chair, exactly (and my paint is also fading off the armrest in the same spot as yours lol!!) ok, that's a suitable eye exam in my opinion :Nerd:sorry to the OP if off subject, though I think we're still near there....
