F1 ATR database

Featured Replies

Thoroughly enjoying the ATR again - far enough away from a "same old" Boeing to be challenging without requiring a night of manual reading, with lots of little details - and those turbo engine sounds on reverse are just too good.Trying the demo of Garys EGLC I got caught out after being given the landing runway - RC said 27 but only 09 shows in the ATR FMS. FSCommander shows 10 and 28.I opened the ATR airports database and it shows both 09 and 27 for EGLC - but only 09 in the FMS.The FSC database is new and clean of old files, Makerways is newly run, and I have the latest AIrac in everything, if that makes any difference. So which is right - 09 and 27 or 10 and 28, and how can I get evrybody reading from the same page?.Edit: the FSC map shows 10 and 28 and the Sid/Star dropdown shows 09 and 27. How can that happen?

9 and 27 are correct per the current NATS AIS charts... I don't have FSC so don't know if it gets its data from an AIRAC or the FS database; if the latter it's out of date. You may have some sort of issue with the ATR. I just loaded it up and planned a flight from EGKK to EGLC and saw both 9 and 27 as arrival runways. Were you doing a departure from EGLC?DJ

Have you run the Database updater for FSCommander after installing the airport bgl? The FSC navdata only updates procedures and I believe waypoints but I may be wrong. The airports all come from FS bgl files and need to be updated when adding new airport bgls. ( They contain the rwy, freq etc.) Kinda a PITA

Thats the wierd thing - everything up updated.I had exactly the same problem on the return leg: back into EGAA I only got Rw 07 as an option for arrival. The wind shown on the FSC map said otherwise - and there should be four choices, not one.I think I have to deal with each thing separately:going to F1 about the FMS discrepancy, (though I wonder if there is anyone still awake over at the ATR forum) and FSCommander about the Map and Sid/Star showing different data.Thanks.

Hi,FSCommander can be very fussy on which AFCAD it is using. So to be sure it is the right one, check in airport view by requesting the AP in question.e.g EGLC. Then verify ti is not using an AP....... file.If it is and you have 3rd party scenery installed, i have found the best way out of this is as follows:-remove the AF2/AFX file from the scenery folder of the AP in question and place it in Addon scenery/Scenery folder. Then rerun the FSCDatabase manager and repeat the check in the Airport view window. Also, if you have Afcad2.2 or AFX, preferably AFCAD2.2, run these and check that you only have 2 entrys against the AP, one of which should be marked stock. Of the remaining one or more listed, open each in turn, then then right click(Afcad2.2) or file menu (AFX) and select property's. This will tell you where the afcad resides and if it is the one you want to be active. If it turns out not to be the required Afcad then you can either remove it or as I tend to do rename it to AF2_EGLC. BU for e.gJust checked my system, the AFCAD for EGLC, i.e UK2000 London City Xtreme is in the scenery folder for that AP. The AP Window in FSCom shows 09 and 27 and the file it is based on is af2_eglc_UK2xGE. So i can only think inyour case FSC is using the wrong AFCAD.As for the ATR, when you open the Dep/Arrive page have you got 09 already selected, if so press clear and left click the 09 LSK then you might get the 09/27 option.Regards Johnt

Crikey, you have RTFM, havent you?! And more - youre able to explain it so that even I can understand.FSC was reading from an AP.bgl in eurw/scenery and not from af2_eglc_UK2xG. Moving the af2 to AddonScenery/Scenery has now made FSC read from it correctly.I recall years ago the debate about where afcads "should" reside and the consensus was AS/Scenery, but seeing as everything seemed to work ok with the afcads within the AP scenery folders .......I wonder how many others of mine are being wrongly read. Seeing as I am far from being a "by the book" simmer I have always either ignored or "worked around" these discrepancies.Going to repeat EGAA-EGLC in the ATR and see what I can make of your suggestion for the FMS.Regards and thanks.

Hi,Just another hint for FSC,if you are using the SceneryConfigEditor utility to manipulate scenery. Bit of self interest here, as I had a hand in the production of this utility, but back to business. Once you have settled on the scenery to be used, startup FSim then run FSC Database MNGR, prior to booting up FSC. Otherwise if you have enabled previously disenabled scenery, in most cases FSC will display stock AP info.Did you resolve the ATR FMS problem?Regards JohnT

Yes, yes, yes and thank you :)ATR:The runways in the FMS had been previously selected (I had based my arrival on the wind indicated in FSC): clearing the selected RW brings up the complete list.FSC:Once I realised the importance, I always run the Db and always clean out the "old" files (why FSC leaves old files after a new DB is a mystery). Regarding the "where does FSC get its airport and other info from" issue, I recieved a very unhelpful and bordering on the agressive reply from Volker, (which surprised the bejonkers out of me).The one question that still remains is - if FSC gets its AP data from FS, where does it get its Sid(Star data? Airac? Would that cause the Sid/Star dropdown to be out of synch with the RWs listed in the AP data?Am unfamiliar with this "SceneryConfigEditor" of which you so humbly speak :) - where can I find it.?Have a good dayNicholas

Hi Nicholas.I think Volker is getting a little fed up explaining the ins and outs of FSC :-)As for SCE take a look at avsim.net/topic/329102-scenery-config-editor/ for further info and help. The program can be obtained from Sourceforge.net or Google "SceneryConfigEditor".Depending on how much scenery you have,it will probably take some time to set up. But once you have set-up, scenery can added/removed or otherwise manipulated in minutes.Regards JohnT

Since you have makerwys for RC you can use the log it creates in your FS9 folder called runways.txt. This very large file shows each instance of afd data from the AP default files and add-on afcad. afx, and ade plus any created by a developers tools no matter where they are located as long as they are referenced in scenery.cfg.Open it in word or wordpad and search for the ICAO code of interest. The first hit should be a single section with a path shown to the AP default tile file it is located in. The rest of the section hits should come in pairs comprised of a deletion section followed by the addition of afd objects (runways, taxiway points, runway navaids, etc.). The last section pair for your airport id is what dominates in the production of its data files. Scenery.cfg determines the priority it uses and determines the afd file location.Occasionally we get a complaint by FSC users of a problem caused by data mismatch. It was commented on some time ago that FSC looks only in the add-on sceneryscenery folder plus the default airport locations so where add-on afd type files were not located in the add-on scenery folder tree FSC plans were out of sync with RC ATC.So for any add-on where FSC is to be used you must make sure the afd type file is in add-on sceneryscenery and that it has priority in the scenery library setting so RC will sync with that data.If the coordinates of an airport in the plan created by FSC differ from the data that RC has for the airport coordinates then there can be a risk of RC determining the aircraft is out of the airport bounds and it will move the aircraft to its calculated airport center once RC is started. That's what brought out this investigation. It is rare but it does happen.I also note that some traffic packages place afd type files in add-on sceneryscenery so beware of conflicts there if an add-on airport has its own afd file.(afd stands for AFAIK airport facilities directory or similar.)
