Tried to post a review on Avsim about this product, I was unsuccessful. Made a video demo of some of the features.Works with ALL FSX airports, payware or defaultWill work "for free" on any FSDreamteam payware airport (and they offer several for puchase) so you can try before you buyAdds another layer to your cockpit experienceFollow-me truck can work with FSX ATC to lead you to your gate (instead of the yellow arrows)Mashaller guides you to your parking spot and signals you to cut engines (included with program)I would give it about an 8.See what you think.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSgOCdRlLSc

Thank you for your comment. I don't know about how 'entertaining' this was - I was trying to demo some of the features in this add-on for FSX. Appreciate your time.

Very informative 'in sim' demo of GSX - thanks for putting this together. Although AES still compares favorably imho, GSX is far better value given it works everywhere for the one price - very nice.btw - how come strobes are on while on the ramp etc? Sorry I get a little constipated about things like that :(

Regards,

Mark

I include little things like that to pique viewer's interest! More dramatic! ;)Kind of like why all the police cars have their bubblegum machines flashing when no vehicles are moving at the end of a movie :D

Maybe do one during the day so it's all easier to see?
Not a bad idea. Maybe I will try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

FSDreamteam's Ground Services X demo in daylight (by request)After some additional effort, I made a 10 min video feat. FSDreamteam's very fine KORD airport upgrade (Chicago O'Hare) and their GSX (Ground Services X) add-on for FSX. The GSX portion is near the end of the video.

Robert,Enjoyed the night video (haven't watched the daytime one yet). I was particularly interested in how well you parked the aircraft. I noted the Marshaller said 'that wasn't a very good parking'. That's all I get too even though I do my utmost to stay on the line and follow the Marshaller's directions. I wonder if anyone has had a 'nice parking' or 'outstanding parking' comment from the Marshaller yet. It's really bugging me that I can't get a nice comment from the Marshaller!!! I do know he brings you too far past the lines most of the time and I think FS DreamTeam executives are working on a solution to tweak this aspect of GSX. Not a big deal. We ARE the Captains so who cares what a Marshaller has to say? LOL. Thanks again for the presentation.Best regards,Jim

Hey Jim,Thanks for the kind comments. Yah, I too am puzzled by the Marshaller and the relatively poor job he does lining up my aircraft - almost defeats the purpose - another neat feature for FSDreamteam to consider adding would be for the Marshaller to appear at ANY gate that you choose to park in (this could be a default setup choice in GSX options - eg "6- Marshaller appears automatically at every gate upon parking" How cool would that be? Especially if you could turn that on or off? Good little program though. Have you seen AivlaSoft's Electronic Flight Bag (30 day free fully functional demo)? It's pricey ($73 USD) but omg - it's nearly perfect in so many ways! HIGHLY recommend you check it out if you haven't done so! http://www.aivlasoft.comBest regards,

That looks like an easy option for them to put into GSX. Whenever I select a gate, the follow-me vehicle takes me on the other side of the airport and I see a lot of vacant gates on the way, some with the same airline I'm flying sitting next to the vacant gate.

I have not but have looked at it on their website and will stay with FSBuild for flight planning and AS2012 to provide me the enroute weather and the Internet for SID/STAR/Airport charts. I also use Navigraph and they provide a lot of valuable info too. In other words, I have already spent a bundle for the same flight planning information, albeit not all in one place like this nice package, but still I'll pass. Thanks for the tip though!Best regards,Jim

Hi Jim!Yes, I have all the same resources you mentioned except Active Sky (I went with REX instead) - yet I am compelled to use EFB. At minimum, may I at least suggest you consider "Trying" EFB? I am pretty sure you will find some things are irresistibly appealing in EFB! I know they already are working on version 2 (current is version 1)...I committed to purchase well before 30 days.. The 'charts' are all there and built in- and uses NAVIGRAPH data for the SID/STARS via AIRAC updates...I think you can tie it to NOAA realtime weather (that's what I do) as well. Just saying! Plus, it easily runs on 2 PC's (data server on your FSX box, client on the 2nd PC) so you don't get the issues with pausing FSX... I especially love where the VATSIM coverage areas are clearly marked out as active, and the borders of same, so when you depart one airspace and enter another, you KNOW you should call the new center BEFORE they squawk to you on Vatsim... pretty cool. If you are approaching an uncontrolled airspace (e.g. Vatsim ATC is "offline" for a given area the coverage area is pure white - if ATC is active the area is cross-hatched so you can tell at a glance... I really like that. Plus your radio frequencies appear for ATIS, tower, departure, approach, center etc. as you fly, and the moving map works in all views (both whilst on the ground and in the air... I'm betting you'd be pretty amazed if all you did was try the free trial...Believe me, the LAST thing I wanted to do was spent $70 USD on yet another FSX add on. Once I saw what I'd been missing - duh - gimmie that credit card! I got pretty tired of buying all the airport charts on Navigraph then printing each one so I could see the runway layouts, and STILL no idea which parking spaces were where in most cases... that is a NON ISSUE with EFB. Each gate clearly marked, the terminals, even the correct 'headings' to go to all the different runways from where you are parked...Makes you look good to ATC no doubt!Works with Vatsim to show REAL TIME moving Vatsim traffic on your in-flight moving map, or if you're using AI will show the AI traffic instead. It may not be all that and a bag of chips, but it sure appealed to me on many different planes (no pun intended!)Have a good day!Best,

Hi Robert! You're much more advanced in flight simming than I am! I don't use VATSIM or any other on-line flight-simming website. I fly alone w/o any ATC. I see that EFB would be valuable to users of on-line services like VATSIM. I'm more of a golfer than flight simmer but enjoy the hobby whenever I get a chance. I do short flights, like between Portland and Seattle or Boise and Seattle or Chicago and St Louis or JFK and Reagan National. Anything less than an hour. Occasionally I'll do a longer flight between Wash DC and St Louis or Chicago. I know all about VATSIM and I don't want to get involved. It doesn't make me happy. So, with my limited use, I don't want to get involved with EFB. Thanks anyway for letting me know about its existence.Best regards,Jim

Hi Jim,Sure, I totally "get" what you mean. Live realtime ATC can be frustrating at times, for example last night a controller got distracted while I flew right through the turning point for my ILS final- he totally ignored my ILS flight plan and gave me a "visual approach", then blew the approach for me. Same airport, 1 day earlier, controller decides at the 11th hour to switch me to a parallel runway, complicating my approach - and again, very late to the party - which caused a missed approach and a go-around. I was steaming mad (but kept my mouth shut). Most times the guys/gals on Vatsim are professional and competent - but the past few days at this one airport, I have to say I was disappointed... other annoyances, controllers 'come and go' almost at whim - one guy decided to close his tower while I was 1 minute from departure...on the taxiway approaching the hold short point for my runway. I guess such is life - but of course, far from "as real as it gets" as no one would close down ops at a major metro airport while a commercial jet was taxiing for departure! So I can say there are definitely things about Vatsim that are NOT ideal and could be improved! OTOH, if they had more volunteer controllers, things would and could be better. I've been invited to become a controller, but I'm not sure how I feel about that.I apologize for my over zealous touting of EFB. You're happy with what you have and what you fly - and totally respect that! Fly safe!I golf as well ;)Best,

Hi Howard,Definitely no need to apologize. I'm always interested in new things, whether I get it or not, and EFB was something new. BTW, have you seen this new ATC4Real package being developed - http://bajasim.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=34? I guess it's a standalone package but you get to vector in traffic in live ATC settings. I personally have no desire to playing 'ATC Controller' but thought maybe you might have an interest.Best regards,Jim
