February 29, 201214 yr Made a short flight tonight from PHNL to PHKO.Just trying to understand this plane better.Had a payload of 2850 with 1900 lbs of fuel for a 145 mile flight. The takeoff and initial climb were by the numbers and smooth. (Love this A/C)Anyway all the way up to 11K everything was nice. Now the rest of the flight was good too however not being that used to the performanceI notice that the climb started to slow way down. I kept an eye on the engines and around 12K had to turn on the anti-icing. Keeping the EGT in a good range the climb suffered even more. I had originaly planned on a flight at 17K but had to change that to 15. I never really got above 230 TAS for the entire flight.I did manage the engines as perscribed thru all phases of the flight. The temps at 15K were about 8 degrees. So is this normal for warmer over water or is there something I'm missing?I use AS2012.Oh yeah I made a first real good cross wind landing in the sim with this flight. Had about a 10 knot cross wind from the right. Kept the right wing tip down and used left rudder to maintain runway heading. Very SMOOTH landing. March 1, 201214 yr You know, sometimes it seems that something's wonky with my J41 just like the problem you described above.I don't know if it's modelling damaged engines or something, but I get the odd reduced performance as well. It's a weird issue. Most of the times I notice it during run-up's. High EGT with not as much torque as I thought. Typically, a reload of the J41 seems to solve the issue. Patrick Houghton
March 3, 201214 yr She does run better in cooler weather, but....not sure if you should have been maxed out at 15K. With a TAT of 8, you should have been able to maintain a climb I would think for a while longer....it might have not been a power climb, but 15K should have been easy to reach, let alone 17K.What was your GS if you remember with that crosswind? Cause i usually don't get much above 230-240 either way in IAS.... William Sequeira
March 3, 201214 yr No really, FL150 might be your best cruise altitude on a very warm day. Make sure you have condition set and that hasn't decrease torque. Dan Downs KCRP
March 4, 201214 yr Guys-Try this quick fix that works with NGX. Open FSUIPC and close it with OK or ACCEPT (not CANCEL). Something is going on with FSX and PMDG planes. This clears it for me. I also have to open the Saitek control panel to get usage for all of the buttons. These are wonky problems but the work arounds seem to clear things. Rick Bertz
March 4, 201214 yr Author I will try the suggestions here and recreate the flight. After looking at the flight conditions it might just be the weather. After the flight I'll post results.Rick I see you use Saitek. I've been a CH fan for many years but have had some minor issues with the throttle quadrant and had to tighten the pot clamps for the levers.I'm looking at Saitek but would like some input on the feel and quality. March 4, 201214 yr Hi Steve,I've used the Saitek X52 joystick and throttle for just over a year and am quite pleased with it. I use the registered version of FSUIPC to set all of the buttons and axes. This allows me to create profiles for any or all of the aircraft I fly. I would like to have the realism of a yoke and three axis throttle for the NGX and 747 but I can't come up with the moola right now. My next purchase will be a set of rudder pedals and I will use these forums to research that buy.I've been simming since the early 80's on a Commodore 64, original PC and every iteration of hardware from then on. Health problems keep me from flying IRL but I can tell you that FSX in it's current maturity is almost like the real thing.BTW, what kind of temps do you get with liquid cooling at 4.9? Rick Bertz
March 4, 201214 yr Author I haven't been simming that long. My first pc was a Packard Bell 286 with a whopping 40 mb hard drive. Right after loading Win 3.1 I installed FS4.I have also stepped up with sim and hardware ever since. I did get a PPL but family and money put a halt to anything serious. had to stop after about 120 hours.I use CH USB yoke, Throttle Quadrant, and pedals. I also use the reg version of FSUIPC and have been setting up sim functions thru it for the controls for a long time. I have 3 PC's to fly. One for FS and Squawkbox, One for FSC 9.1 and a laptop for weather. (AS2012) now. The FSC pc has two monitors. I usually watch a movie via netflix or bluray on long flights. The overclock is the turbo function built into the mobo. It steps up when demand calls for it. When running FS with IFR conditions I haven't seen a temp higher than 50 on any one core. I have a Logitech G510 keyboard and G13 gamepad. On each I can see different values. With LCD SirReal and Speed Fan I get a lot of info for the system. Also run fraps and get a FPS display in real time on the keyboard LCD.I'm looking at getting the Saitek yoke, a pair of throttles and the pedals.
