Recommended reading - what order (JS4100) ?
I would only watch tutorials that have been highly recommended. To many have procedure errors. Nice quality but not following any check lists. Another that will take some practice is using the flaps. Flaps up to flaps 9 there is a big increase in lift. Be ready for it. Nose will want to come up. Same in reverse. The nose this time will drop when flaps are raised. Like any other complex plane here don't rush though the different steps. It took me about 15 to 20 hours to feel good in this plane. Really a joy to fly and as they have said earlier flies great by hand. I spent a weekend just starting and stopping to understand how not to melt the engines. This is another "slow down, before go down" aircraft. Plan to pull the power a mile or two before you TOD. Most think that just because it's a small tubroprop that it doesn't require the same level of detail to fly. They are wrong. Hope this helps.

Yoke to Joystick for NGX
Just as everyone is saying, whatever is comfortable for you. One other thing. If you're using the full version of FSUIPC you can have both connected all the time and set up each a/c for whatever one you wish to use. That's only if you use FSUIPC to control those axis and not FSX. Kind of the best of both worlds. That's how I have mine set up. I go from the P-51 and the Cub from A2A into the NGX and all I need do is move the yoke out of the way for the stick.

A/T Disengage on T/O and ENG FAIL in the air
I used to have the same issue. I have a CH Throttle Quad and use FSUIPC to assign and calibrate. What I found was that using your method (I used to use it) it would drop out. I started to increase my throttles to near the TO thrust limit after pausing to stabilize at 40% and after that engage the A/T and have never had an issue since. I can't explain why but for me it works. I also had "Never" set as well.

What cost index are you using in the FMC during set up. Also when at cruise are you near the limit for speed?
- anyone have the same problem?

Big Mistake
I made a big mistake this afternoon. I connected my 46" HD Sony tv to my FSX pc and loaded the NGX. OMG! I need another tv now. For my pc. The tv has the same resolution as my 27" monitor and there is a slight lack of sharpness. Now 46 inches is a little over kill for a desk I know, but now I have to start saving for a 40 inch screen tv to mount to the wall behind the desk. Damn next I'm gonna want to drop some serious coin and build a flight deck in the spare bedroom. :D

Eyepoint in the VC
I used to edit all my head positions before EZCA. Took time. Lots of trial and error. Now with EZCA it's a snap and takes a fraction of the time. Well worth the investment.

FS2Crew for NGX - just a few hours!
This is an in depth explanation of the various panels and functions of the 737 NG by an online 737 captain. Very well done. I have been using it to better understand just what every switch or button does in the cockpit. It's stand alone and does not interact with FS.

Perfomance In Hawaii
I haven't been simming that long. My first pc was a Packard Bell 286 with a whopping 40 mb hard drive. Right after loading Win 3.1 I installed FS4.I have also stepped up with sim and hardware ever since. I did get a PPL but family and money put a halt to anything serious. had to stop after about 120 hours.I use CH USB yoke, Throttle Quadrant, and pedals. I also use the reg version of FSUIPC and have been setting up sim functions thru it for the controls for a long time. I have 3 PC's to fly. One for FS and Squawkbox, One for FSC 9.1 and a laptop for weather. (AS2012) now. The FSC pc has two monitors. I usually watch a movie via netflix or bluray on long flights. The overclock is the turbo function built into the mobo. It steps up when demand calls for it. When running FS with IFR conditions I haven't seen a temp higher than 50 on any one core. I have a Logitech G510 keyboard and G13 gamepad. On each I can see different values. With LCD SirReal and Speed Fan I get a lot of info for the system. Also run fraps and get a FPS display in real time on the keyboard LCD.I'm looking at getting the Saitek yoke, a pair of throttles and the pedals.

SP1c Release Planned for this weekend!
With this level of detail and devotion to the product it's worth twice the price.Been waiting for this level of quality for a long time. Many thanks and sleepless nights.Hats off to PMDG!!!Now all we need is a better sim to be developed for all this talent.

Perfomance In Hawaii
I will try the suggestions here and recreate the flight. After looking at the flight conditions it might just be the weather. After the flight I'll post results.Rick I see you use Saitek. I've been a CH fan for many years but have had some minor issues with the throttle quadrant and had to tighten the pot clamps for the levers.I'm looking at Saitek but would like some input on the feel and quality.

JS41 Speed & Altitude problem
I used to be a die hard REX user. Since AS2012 I don't ever use it anymore. The winds are very good in AS2012. Have not had one bad flight because of severe wind shifts or temp changes. The textures are really good too.

Perfomance In Hawaii
Made a short flight tonight from PHNL to PHKO.Just trying to understand this plane better.Had a payload of 2850 with 1900 lbs of fuel for a 145 mile flight. The takeoff and initial climb were by the numbers and smooth. (Love this A/C)Anyway all the way up to 11K everything was nice. Now the rest of the flight was good too however not being that used to the performanceI notice that the climb started to slow way down. I kept an eye on the engines and around 12K had to turn on the anti-icing. Keeping the EGT in a good range the climb suffered even more. I had originaly planned on a flight at 17K but had to change that to 15. I never really got above 230 TAS for the entire flight.I did manage the engines as perscribed thru all phases of the flight. The temps at 15K were about 8 degrees. So is this normal for warmer over water or is there something I'm missing?I use AS2012.Oh yeah I made a first real good cross wind landing in the sim with this flight. Had about a 10 knot cross wind from the right. Kept the right wing tip down and used left rudder to maintain runway heading. Very SMOOTH landing.

Two Issues
Thanks Bryan.I did the voice training but I had a mic that was not good enough. Changed it and did the training over. After some digging I found the doc's in FSUIPC to program the button for LCTRL and now use the same button for transmitt on Vatsim.I can see many hours of enjoyment from this and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the NGX version.Steve

Two Issues
I have heard many good things about this FS2Crew. I have not been able to really get started. After installation and running thru the set up and config I noticed that when the room is quiet and with the DSP on I randomly get the green display bar that says: "Captain:off".When I try to speak it will display "Captain:off Captain:{then whatever I say}".Ok second issue. I can not set the soft mute at all. I've read thru the forum and have tried whatever suggestions have been made. The best I can do is assign and keyboard input to get a hard mute.I fly on Vatsim regularly and this will be a problem. I also have a CH Yoke, CH Throttle Quadrant and CH pedals. I'm sure between them all I have 25 buttons. The only option I get is the mute config is Joystick1 thru 25. I've spent some time to test to see which selectable button number to the correct button on a controler. No good. Tried setting up a keyboard to the space bar backspace and so on. Still no soft mute.I want to purchase the other titles for aircraft I have but won't spend anymore money until these issues are resolved.I really want to get this working because I know it'll take my sim experience to another level. Thanks

Yep, it's another...
I do have FS2Crew. Just got it and tried to learn to fly both the plane and with FS2Crew. Decided to remove it until I can make several flights without it. Have to learn the flows and the personality of the J41. I'm starting to really understand. having many hours on the Beech 1900 D I understand turboprop operation. For the J41 I want to always start cold n dark.I would say they should all be tied for first. the combination of all of these products together make this a truely enjoyable experience. I got my PPL back in 96 and flew for a couple years until life, family decided I needed to focus else where. I have not lost the passion for flight just the money.I hope by the end of next week that I'll start using FS2Crew and send it to the next level.

Yep, it's another...
Topic to sing the praises of PMDG. I've had the J41 for awhile but wasn't able to use it because of my system.I held onto it know that in the future I would build the system I wanted. Well that day has arrived and I'm glad I bought this a couple years ago.First few tries to fly this were terrible. Not on any part of the a/c. All me.Then I made the time to read completely thru the turorial flight and then sit down and use it as a guide. I was able to get off the ground with minimal problems.I reviewed my mistakes and made a minor change to my CH throttle Quad to overcome the config error on starting my takeoff roll. The second flight was hands down better than the first and very enjoyable. Takeoff, climbout and enroute climb were right on the numbers. Now between the J41 and the NGX I'm not sure anything else in the hangar will get many hours in the future. Many thanks to the PMDG team for your effort and such great products. Been a long time fan. Will be for a long time.

Difficult to slow down
I had the same problem and was almost never able to reach any crossing alt. I used to fly with a CI value of eighty.I lowered that to about 20 to 25 and much to my amazment I hit all my alt's every time with very little to no speed brakes. I've also noticed that I don't fly over the TOD and dive to capture the descent path.I save fuel also. Not that saving fuel matters when I don't pay for it. Remember here it's "As Real as it Gets". Only drawback is that the flight is slightly longer. You can too fix that when your at FL by using the SPD INVT and select the speed you want. When you get within 20 miles or so of your TOD then just turn the SPD INTV off and let the FMC control the descent speed. This is the way I fly the NGX now and have never had a problem since.Steve Reinard

New Rig question for you guys...
Do some research, get advise here and take your time. The first time I built mine i had not done it before. Now I'll never buy another prebuilt pc again.I have similar specs as above except I have an i7 2600K and also have it OC'd to 4.9. In a word "amazing" This NGX and my new rig have totally breathed new life into my sim experience.i7 2600KP8P67 Pro16 gb Crucial Vengance 1600EVGA GTX 580 3gbliquid cooledWin7 64bitAsk questions and you'll get help.It really is worth the time you spend to do it.Steve

AS2012 locks up Win 7
Installed this on a win7 64bit machine. Selected the FSX path and then after selecting the AppData path it locks up.This is a network install and the paths were verified before the AS2012 install.Tried several times to complete the install and all were unsuccessful.Tried uninstalling and when the dialog box comes up for restoring FSX graphics it locks up and I'm Unable to remove it from the machine.Steve

FSX Keyboard Command Question
I just noticed this happening a couple of days ago. I have an old version Logitech G-15 keyboard. I have TrakIR that I thought i disabled because I mainly use FSX. After ready through this post I checked and found the default setting in TrakIR was active and the F7, F9 and F11 keys were assigned and enabled. Not sure how that happened.Disabling the function keys in TrakIR fixed the problem. I still need to find out why the default setting for TR4 was set. Mine works now.
