Eyepoint in the VC

Featured Replies

Hi All,I have a question regarding the default eye-point in the NGX (Superb product by the way! After having been non-stop flying the J41 for months decided to uprate to the bigger guns! Just scared myself silly on tutorial #2, wild ride!)The only thing Id like to be able to change is where the default eye-point is in the VC cockpit. It just seems too far forward, like the 'pilot' (me) is constantly leaning forward slightly or something. For instance looking directly up should from my experience of sitting in a 737-700 cockpit, have me looking to the middle-left of the overhead panel if viewed from the captains side. Instead I find myself looking at the far left and quite far to the forward of the panel. I front think the issue is with zoom level, I tried messing with zoom level and it just seemed to me to make the view angle wider, but not resolve the problem. I use trackIR5 and doing some experimenting found that if I lean back it does feel a little more natural, but obviously can't lean back all day!!Many thanks in advance guys and once again congratulations to the PMDG team for yet another tip top product!Regards,James

Move it wherever you like, that best represents what you recall. Then save a flight (if using mouse look) or save the camera position if using EZCA. The eye point movement commands are in the default menu/button commands under VIEW. If you are using EZCA, you will need to ref the manual (2, then arrows+page up/down).Zoom is a big factor.....I like 70%.......your mileage may vary....

As in all FSX aircraft there is a 'head position' in the aircraft.cfg file. In the PMDG -800 that I have it's defined as :[Views]eyepoint = 46.462, -1.64, 4.75ie. 46' forward, 1.6' left and 4.7' up from the centre of the aircraft. Make a backup then change these figures to see if that helps. Maybe bring the first figure back a foot or so???

I used to edit all my head positions before EZCA. Took time. Lots of trial and error. Now with EZCA it's a snap and takes a fraction of the time. Well worth the investment.

How much hassle is the ezca configuration? I do own it but must admit it was uninstalled after being unable to get it set-up correctly. Plus I found that the cockpit constantly shaking made it difficult for me to press any buttons in the VC! It would have been nice to just have the landing shakes but it seemed all or nothing, unless I was doing something incorrect.Out of interest where to most people put their eyepoint and zoom level? Is zoom .70 about correct or is .60 more realistic? Having trouble figuring it out now!Regards,James

It's purely personal. I have mine set at wide, which is 0.30 I think. Far too wide I hear shouts, but that's what I like. Although I have to admit, I was playing around with zoom levels only yesterday in the VC and think I may alter my positions to 0.33 or 0.40. As for the external views, I always use the widest possible zoom level, for two reasons only 1) it adds a real dynamic feel to the external views and 2) it helps with disguising any scenery blurries. I see a lot of guys complaining about blurries and when they post a screenie it's often the case that the camera view is zoomed in too far! :(

Here is my default view. I have 23'' 1080p, so everything is visible. I use hat button to pan and arrows for moving. Olso, there are different camera positions which i set for hotkeys. Zoom is 0.40 i think20139379.pngIt's impossible to make fully realistic camera and zoom setting, cause you have peripheral sight in real life.

Right I've done some testing and found something that seems a lot better I've moved the eyepoint back and zoomed to .60 However now its impossible to see the HGS properly! Anyone know any ways around this?CheersJames

You might find that using EZCA is the best choice or define a camera setting that positions you correctly when using the HGS... I have to admit not to having used the HGS at all yet (shock horror, I know...), since I am still having too much fun just shooting the ILS and visual approaches without it so far... I will get round to that one day I am sure...I tend to pull the zoom back to around .65 to .60, and shift my eyepoint backwards around 10 keypresses' equivalent... For wont of automating it, it has just become part of my cockpit set up routine, like climbing into a the left seat and adjusting it for me because the guy/girl before me wasn't my height... hey, as real as it gets, everyone...Andrew

Hi JamesI've never had any problems with ezdok and trackir. I wouldn't fly without them. Go to http://www.simforums...ms/forum39.html This is ezdok's forumIn particular, you'll find a set of videos on how to set ezdok up and how to run it with trackir here: http://www.simforums...8637_page1.htmlAlso, search for this video on youtube on how to set up trackir and ezdok: "EZCA v1.15 prepare for use and new featrures"Camera shake can easily be switched off or on in any view. I have a pilots eye view with a slightly shakey view, but when i switch to another view, of a close up of certain instruments for example, i have that view set up with no shake. Its all in the manual and the youtube videos on how to do it.Give it some time, read the manual and watch the videos. Don't be put off by peoples comments about ezdok. It works fine for me and many others.Regards,Chris.

IMO Ezdok is essential for flying the NGX and goes hand in hand as much as FS2Crew!
