New Rig question for you guys...

Featured Replies

Hello all,I am about to start looking at ordering a new computer, as the Mother-In-Laws just died....perfect excuse to be generous and donate mine.....for a new one....Question is....I am not the best at a complete self build....I would like to just get one shipped to me. I have already once went the Alienware way...and was not 100% satisfied with it, as upgrades and all were almost needed the moment I got it...plus, 1000$ extra for flashy lights and carbon fiber are not needed.Where and what would you guys recommend for me to get the best bang for my buck on a new rig...I have only FSX and the NGX in mind to run this. Also would be looking to swap from ATI to NVIDIA....as I hear there new cards are some of the best out there....plus...CCC is not very good to tweak settings...and aftermarket stuff has its own drawbacks.I am liking what I am seeing with the i7-2600ks, and the speeds they can produce...plus, something that is EASY to OC, as I am a beginner at all that. And help or suggestions would be great....looking forward to hearing some suggestions from all you guys in the know.Thanks.

I was pleased with my system from "IBUYPOWER". You can custom pick all your components. Check them out at www.ibuypower.comjim

It's a pity that you don't build your own,but this site is supposed to be good.http://www.jetlinesystems.com/http://www.jetlinesystems.com/HellFireGT1.php

X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i7-13700KF  Gigabyte Z790 RTX-4060-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

Do some research, get advise here and take your time. The first time I built mine i had not done it before. Now I'll never buy another prebuilt pc again.I have similar specs as above except I have an i7 2600K and also have it OC'd to 4.9. In a word "amazing" This NGX and my new rig have totally breathed new life into my sim experience.i7 2600KP8P67 Pro16 gb Crucial Vengance 1600EVGA GTX 580 3gbliquid cooledWin7 64bitAsk questions and you'll get help.It really is worth the time you spend to do it.Steve

I would NOT recommend IBUYPOWER. I bought an i7 980x rig from them about 2 years ago and after about one year it has been nothing but trouble. I will soon be upgrading to an i7 2700k rig and build it myself.

Wait for Ivy Bridge!! It will be well worth the wait! And with a PCIe3 card, the FSX performance will be about 15% percent faster than a current SandyBridge system.

Ya, I would love to buy it all and put it together....save money...but as I have never even changed out a CPU before...I think that would not be the best idea...as I would hate to mess anything up.

The new Intels have this new thing that, to put it in, all you have to do is open the little bracket door and simply drop the CPU on it. You don't have to use force. Just drop.

I hadn't done it untill I built one myself.Take your time for it, work orderly and nothing should go wrong.Bert Van Bulck

If you really feel uncomfortable, then buy it pre built. But I also recommend to build it yourself. Not only will it be a little cheaper, but you feel very good about yourself after you build your first machine. There are many great videos on YouTube that teach you how (this is how I did it), and if you just take your time it will come out fine. About the hardest part is the cable management, at least for me, and this part is just tedious, but you if you're good at sorting out cables it should be fine.

Here is what I am looking at so far. Please give your thoughts. One of the main things I am up in the air about is the CPU. I have read both sides, for and against the i7-2600k.....and others saying that the i7-2500k is way more than enough for FSX and future games. MSI P67A-C43 B3 Intel P67 MotherboardIntel Core i7-2600K 3.40 GHz Quad-Core UnlockedMSI DH-24AAS-17 Internal DVD WriterPNY 16GB (4x 4GB) DDR3 XLR8**HD not selected yet...as I am unsure about the cost/return on a SSD.....**MSI NightHawk ATX Black Mid Tower CaseMSI Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 PCIe 2.1Have not selected a Power Supply unit. I have a 850w Black widow in my current rig, that I might use....I am sure that is more than enough to power it. Have not included Win764And also have not included cooling hardware....as I am a little lost on this also....I at the moment, have a liquid cooled system from Alienware...and like it...but not sure how it stacks up against air systems and the prices. Not sure if I want to do a liquid system myself...as water in a computer is bad enough, let alone it being installed by some newjack.Any suggestions? Anything I am leaving out?I already have x2 21.5" ACER monitors I will be using, and all other hardware. Also unsure if I should go with the HD6770, or keep the current Crossfire x2 HD 5770s that I have now in my rig.So what you guys think?
