hello,

 

yesterday i flew from KDFW to KPHX and used the KOOLY4.SSO STAR into Phoenix. as the dust storm rolled over town the airport was temporarily closed (i am talking vatsim here).

 

in order to delay arrivals ATC gave me a hold over the KOOLY fix. to my surprise i was unable to locate that fix on my legs page. looking at the chart i saw that KOOLY is part of the arrival procedure, but it was simply missing on my flight plan. i put it in manually so i could do the hold.

 

 

 

after landing i checked the KOOLY4 STAR in the MCDU (all transitions available) but none of them has the KOOLY fix (which would be really interesting if you flew the TUS transition!).

 

i then reported this on the navigraph forum (btw of course i am using the current AIRAC) but i was told the fix was there so there's nothing they could do. (however, it was tested on the FS9 737PMDG, not the NGX!).

 

here is my question. can anyone check this on their NGX? just put the KOOLY4 STAR into the MCDU and tell me if you have the KOOLY fix in it?

The KOOLY fix does appear to be missing in all of the KOOLY4 procedures that are in the 1206 cycle from Navigraph. This is their problem and I have no clue why they'd tell you they can't fix it, it should be the first "common" waypoint in the STAR.

 

Here's how to fix it manually though:

 

- Open the KPHX.txt file in FSX\PMDG\SIDSTARS with notepad or another pure plaintext editor. (do not use MS Word or Wordpad etc, those are rich text editors) Turn Word Wrap OFF in the Format menu.

 

- Go down to the STARS section and find all the KOOLY4 variants - you should have variants for 07B, 08, 25L, 25R and 26.

 

- Select/highlight all the KOOLY4 variants and copy and paste what's below over top of them - you want to completely replace the block of KOOLY4 variants in the file with this whole block of text here:

This adds "FIX KOOLY AT OR ABOVE 15000 SPEED 270" as the first set of commands in each variant of the STAR and should fix the problem.

I've been having a ton of SID/STAR problems with the 1206 cycle. Don't know why, but hopefully it will all be fixed with 1207, or with aerosoft's new navdata.

I had the same problem with the MOTIF4 flying into KMDW this evening as well. Thought it was just me.

it's not new to me that every now and then some constraints are wrong, so when i select a STAR or SID i always check alt/speed restrictions with the chart. i have never thought that there would be completely missing fixes, though. i guess another thing to check before reaching that segmet of your flight...

For the record, cycle 1206 is really screwed up. It seems to be affecting the main point on STARS (KOOLY in the KOOLY4 for example) and IAF for approaches. I crosscheck every star and approach that I fly and will continue to do so under this cycle. Every, and I mean every approach that I have flown this month is missing the IAF. And if it has options for the IAF, usually they come up as not in database even though putting them in manually works just fine.

 

As others have said- I hope they fix whatever it is in 1207.

Nick, now that you say that - a couple of weeks ago i flew to Munich EDDM and was also missing the IAF that was on the chart but not in the MCDU. ATC told me to go direct to it and i was completely lost........ LOL

i would try it right now but it's bed time...

i just installed the revised AIRAC cycle for PMDG and the problem is solved. it has been out for a while i guess but i never knew about it.

 

so everything is better with the installation of the new AIRAC.

 

Julian, (might be a dumb question) why did you not spell out navigraph?
