August 20, 201213 yr Hi. I have recently discovered the likes of A2A and Rea Air. I currently have the Saitek pro yoke and throttles. However I feel a joystick would be far more appropriate and easier to fly the small GA's. So would a X52 Pro go well with my NGX. Side note I have no rudder pedals so joystick rudder twist motion is a pro for the ngx I think.
August 21, 201213 yr How is a joystick more appropriate to fly a plane that has a yoke? I say if the plane has a stick in RL, then fly it with a stick (extra, airbus). For everything else, use your yoke. Ultimately it's up to you though. Fly with what you're comfortable using. AJ Pongress
August 21, 201213 yr As noone will give you the real feeling, use what you feel better. I use a force feedback joystick, for me is better than a Yoke, also if it is not similar to the real controller. Don't worry, a fs yoke if far from the real one same as a joystick. Regards Andrea Daviero
August 21, 201213 yr Author I have never used the rudder system on any aircraft since I began simming roughly 3 years ago. Partly because I dont want to pay $170+ for the pedals. However I just thought getting a yoke would give me chance to finally use rudder properly (sorta) without using auto rudder (fsx option). As well as making flying beter for aircrafts that actually use flight sticks.
August 21, 201213 yr A good joystick have also the rudder axys, not the pedals, but sufficient. Regards Andrea Daviero
August 21, 201213 yr I fly the 737 NGX with my Saitek X52, in fact that is how I fly all the planes in FSx as I don't have a yoke! I also use the rudder on the stick, although really think some pedals would be nicer, especially during taxi. I have been tempted a few times with the Saitek yoke, but I have read lots of stuff about how unresponsive it is, so am put off by it. If anyone else has experience of other yokes I would be keen to hear about it. I agree with what AJ says on all counts. I am sure the pureists will say you need a yoke, but I guess it is down to personal choice. I would have a yoke for aircraft that have one, if I can find one that is apparently better than the Saitek offering. Not sure if this helps. August 21, 201213 yr For the 737 you need a control column and not a yoke, unreal for unreal, each of us can use what it feels better. Also, between spring loaded devices and force feedback devices a force feedback one is better. Yokes with FF are present, they cost too much but works also with autopilot engaged. August 21, 201213 yr Nothing wrong with Saitek's yoke. Had mine for 2 years+ and no problems, along with an extra throttle quad and their pedals. AJ Pongress
August 21, 201213 yr Nothing wrong with Saitek's yoke. Had mine for 2 years+ and no problems, along with an extra throttle quad and their pedals. Me too and I agree. George T
August 21, 201213 yr I have a Saitek Pro Yoke and TQ + Pedals (Can't afford the real good stuff) and a Saitek X52 stick & throttle. I use the yoke + x52 throttle for throttle & rev. & TQ for flaps and spoilers + pedals for my aircraft that are yoke equiped in the real world. I use the above, but substitute the yoke with the X52 stick on a/c that are jorstick equiped in the RW. Rick Hobbs
August 21, 201213 yr I have Saitek pro yoke throtles and pedals. I had to put the yoke and throttles away just now due to lack of space. I now use my Logitech Xtreme 3d stick with the Saitek pedals because my rudder axis on the stick started to give out. Best of both worlds although I do miss the yoke I can still fly with precision using this combonation. This Logitech stick has served me well, 5 years although I may upgrade to hotas warthog in a few months since I seem to play DCS and Falcon BMS more and more and could do with the HOTAS controls. :) My youtube channel for HD FSX Videos http://www.youtube.com/user/Doogiereid?feature=mhee Doogie Reid
August 21, 201213 yr My Saitek yoke recently failed. I was never really happy with it so I have no plans to get another. I reverted to a joystick I had and flying the Lancair Legacy is awesome. I have no problem using it for the NGX, its smoother and I like it better. Maybe not as "real", but better for me. Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist
August 21, 201213 yr Nothing wrong with Saitek's yoke. Had mine for 2 years+ and no problems, along with an extra throttle quad and their pedals. They are pretty reliable yes eccept the throttle quadrant from my experience but they feel very loose and cheap, two things that don't help enhance the experience of flight imo. David DD David
August 21, 201213 yr This is something I've been debating with myself too. I currently have the Saitek Yoke system, however, it occupies my entire desk so a joystick would be much better in terms of typing efficiency, etc. I do fly GA airplanes with yokes, and the NGX which has a yoke too so I don't know exactly what I should do. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
August 21, 201213 yr Just as everyone is saying, whatever is comfortable for you. One other thing. If you're using the full version of FSUIPC you can have both connected all the time and set up each a/c for whatever one you wish to use. That's only if you use FSUIPC to control those axis and not FSX. Kind of the best of both worlds. That's how I have mine set up. I go from the P-51 and the Cub from A2A into the NGX and all I need do is move the yoke out of the way for the stick.
