ATIS keeps getting it wrong.

Featured Replies

Hi, having a problem with ATIS, it keeps giving the wrong runway for both take off and landing. Last night, for example, i flew from Alicante Spain, to London Gatwick. Alicante ATIS gave 08 for take off and landing, then ATC sent me to 24. On approach to Gatwick, ATIS told me 8R, then approach sent me to 26L. Approach was correct for both wind direction, and flow of AI. Any idea what might be going on. Thanks.

What OS platform, FS version, and weather application. How far out did you tune ATIS.RC gives first priority to ai patterns that may not follow weather on ATIS. Depending on ai aircraft type a cerain amount of tailwind is acceptable to meet other criteria as controlled by the FS ai engine. If you are using UT2 for FSX as your traffic application then be sure you set it to spawn ai at the maximum distance. If you are an ASE user be sure you have all of the service packs installed and the current version of FSUIPC from here:http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66139-updated-modules/Check the hifi support forum here on AVSIM for ASE and FSX setups.

Thanks for your reply Ron. I have windows 7, FSX, Using REX for weather, and my AI is WOAI.

RC just assumes weather for ATIS. It reads it from FS and also best runway fit for your arrival if weather permits. At approach time 40 nm out ATIS should be weather compliant but then ai become available to look at.If REX uses SimConnect directly and does any weather smoothing using global weather (which means the FS universe has the same weather as your aircraft current location) that could present a problem. ASE and FSUIPC4 developers worked together to put in ATIS hooks to read directly from ASE DESTINATION METARS. If REX uses FSUIPC4 to write weather to FSX then it might not need any special fixes.I think ATIS weather (if not global) reads at 60 nm out or later, not sure. You do say however that it was incorrect for departure, right? That was only for runway assignment? Did the winds match the REX METAR for departure and destination?

You do say however that it was incorrect for departure, right? That was only for runway assignment? Did the winds match the REX METAR for departure and destination?Yes, when ATC assigned the runway, i took off into the wind. Interestingly, i think runways are assigned depending on AI and not wind direction however, ATC seems to be ignoring AI and assigning the correct runway based on wind direction. My co pilot contacts ATIS 50 NM from the arrival airport.

Make sure you have Interact with AI checked in options. RC4 has observed ai runway direction as the first priority in selecting runway assignments by departure ground and destination approach. That was added to version 4 to avoid ai conflicts in runway direction patterns. ai in FS is difficult to predict as to landing runway choice and take-off. FS has as scoring system per those that observed and analyzed ai airport operations in that it includes weather, preferred runway navaids, runway properties, aircraft weight, and other items.I operate by only including common STAR waypoints to plan files sent to RC and set up in nav instruments where STARS are runway specific and when approach assigns the runway I complete the nav gear STAR waypoints or if taking vectors just enter the arrival runway and runway final approach type so I have it for reference on the nav display.

rc follows the ai.make a log, information pinned to the top of the forum. duplicate the problem, and send me the log. tell me which runway rc says to use, and which runway you think rc should sayi'll look at the log, and explain how rc came up with the runway.jd

Hi,REX weather has come in for some adverse comments on other forums about its depiction not being all that it should be.I use Active SKy E or A depending on which sim I am using and I adopt this method.I load the weather into FS let it settle down ,then I press refesh AI traffic which is available in the AS screens. This gives AI a chance to land in accordance with the weather and current winds.I also note what sort of winds are at the arrival airport at this time.I then follow for arrival the following system. At 60 miles out I refresh AI again and then at 50 miles out listen to ATIS.In most cases the information given is correct for the weather. Some discussion has taken place as to the souces which REX uses to obtain its weather and some folks have suggested that they do not give universal coverage.Norman
