March 2, 201214 yr Today I thought I noticed something strange when was flying in Princess Julianna airportI was on my standard Cessna 172..heading East on the 90 degree radial towards the VOR (freq 113.00)I had both VORs VOR and VOR2 dialed to the same frequency 113.0 and both the OBS dialed to E (090) and my Directional Gyro was 90. My VOR2 needle was dead on center and TO.However my VOR1 needle was to the left by almost 2 dots (1.5 dots). I would have expected the need to be dead center on VOR1 too.Basically VOR1 seem lot more sensitive than VOR2. Mind you,I am dialed to the VOR for both... I am not dialed into the ILS (Which I know is more sensitive). Can someone help explain my confusion Edited March 2, 201214 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 2, 201214 yr Your VOR1 pointer is at 87 deg. and VOR2 pointer is at 84 deg, Manny. March 2, 201214 yr Author Yeah.. You are right. The thing is, I was using Flight Illusion gauges (Hardware) for VOR1 and VOR2. And it was dead on at E on that.. I need to caliberate those VOR2 to sync with the FSX VOR2. That was the issue. I notced it after I posted the image.:)Thanks Paul Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 2, 201214 yr Hardware gauges.. wow! Am I ever envious! Do you have the whole panel? March 2, 201214 yr ...heading East on the 90 degree radial towards the VOR...Umm......that's not possible. If your heading East on the 90 degree radial the VOR is behind you.regards,Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
March 2, 201214 yr No big deal... Manny knows that, and I know what he meant - it was a loose slip of the pen... uh.. finger. some of us are hunt and peck types, you know.. :( i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
March 2, 201214 yr Author Hi Joe..you are right..I was on the 270 radial. :) And Its good to be precise with these thing....this could kill ya! :)And Paul... Yeah I have 8 of FI gaugesBut I have a lousy computer.. I have a Core 2 Duo. Ha Ha.. it gives me 5 FPS with all my addons and settings.:)I am waiting for the Ivy Bridge to build a new PC and a reasonable Cockpit.I have been buying these FI gauges over a period of last 3-4 years.. And just completed the last VOR2 this week. Thats why I was test tuning the VOR2.. I love those gauges, espeically at night..with those lights on, they are very good and they are really sensitive..as sensitive as the FSX gauges...so far. They are quality gauges and hence they are expensive. The way I figured, they are better money spent than the $3000 I spent on the core 2 duo for FSX that I never could use.I also love those SAITEK Gauges... It saves me from buying expensive engine gauges. See those two Saitek panels.. I made those Duke Manifold Pressure gauges (R & L) myself. and the Dual RPM gauges. Except I can't upload them to the library since I used the images from Real Air. I did a screen capture and then with Photoshop removed the glass like I had a polorized glass on them.Manny Edited March 2, 201214 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 2, 201214 yr Just gorgeous... You have W-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y too much money, Manny! There's nearly $3000 in that panel.. I'm speechless. I'm also sorry that my wife had to see this too....... :( http://www.flightillusion.com/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=7&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=58&vmcchk=1&Itemid=58 i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
March 2, 201214 yr Wow. Those gauges look great. If there's ever an FS11 I'm buying! Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
March 2, 201214 yr Author To be honest I feel guilty spending $3000 for that FSX PC Dual core and GTX8800 video card ($850) that is not worth a pot to pee on today. I almost gave up on sim flying for the last 2 years.. So money on those Gauges rretains its value much better. :)that black panel for those gauges.. I designed and ordered it using http://www.frontpanelexpress.com/ Edited March 2, 201214 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 2, 201214 yr Actually Manny...There is some variance allowed between 2 VORs for RW operations:--------------------------------------------------------------------------Sec. 91.171 — VOR equipment check for IFR operations.(c ) If dual system VOR (units independent of each other except for the antenna) is installed in the aircraft, the person checking the equipment may check one system against the other in place of the check procedures specified in paragraph (b ) of this section. Both systems shall be tuned to the same VOR ground facility and note the indicated bearings to that station. The maximum permissible variation between the two indicated bearings is 4 degrees.----------------------------------------------------------------------------So let's take Paul's "example""Your VOR1 pointer is at 87 deg. and VOR2 pointer is at 84 deg"If the needles were centered with the above reading, you would still be good to go for IFR Flight, once having entered the appropriate information in the aircraft logbook. Not that I would expect there to be some variance in a sim of this nature.Btw yes very sweet setup there!Best,Rob
