Single Cue Mode

Featured Replies

Hi guys, as long as I have the NGX, I mostly flew arround with Southwest´s birds and the real cockpit setting. I´ve noticed that Southwast uses that "Single Cue" mode for the Autopilot. I wonder why they´fve choosen that setting over the "single axis" setting which is (at least from my perspective) a lot easier to use. Does anyone know wyh they´ve choosen it?

Best regards, Steffen

Not sure.. But I've kind of got used to it, and maybe even prefer it over double cue..Double cue might be more precise overall, but the single cue sort of gives you moreof a graphic indication of what you should fly to match that path. You just match theflight director bar with the single cue, and pretty much all it wrote.. So pretty simpleI suppose. I'm running single cue on the Southwest planes I run, and also the 600 BBJI use. I suppose one other possible advantage is that it gives you a pitch cue, and ifyou match it, you shouldn't have any problems with over banking.I don't know if you get that from double cue, with the way it works. Been awhile sinceI used it.. :/ But I don't recall the horizontal line changing bank angle like the singlecue does.>>I suppose one other possible advantage is that it gives you a pitch cue,er, meant bank cue..

Single cue and double cue give the same info (pitch, roll), just in a different format. Some like single, some like double. Only thing nice about single cue is you can get a better sense of bank angle required. However I find double cue to fly more accurately as far as me matching pitch and roll commands.. Again a matter of perspective.

Mainly because the SWA classics (which are going through flight deck upgrade) use steam gauges and have a single cue F/D and want to keep commonality with the NG.. The NG went through a software display change for future ops.. It's not done yet, but it's moving forward.. All the new planes come with single cue. The main reason for that is so that all pilots can fly all aircraft in the fleet.. Cheers..

I allready thought about it being something like you said. Looks like I have to learn how to fly with that. Thanks for these information. Btw do you know whether SWA planes are equipped with HGS (especially the NG's)?

I find the single cue more intuitive, so this comes down to personal preference. As for the HUD: Yes, they have them. (mostly) They're almost all HUD now.

Last I heard the classic upgrade project was cancelled. They're accelerating retirement/replacement of the classics. The display change in the NGs has been completed for a while, I think. As for the single cue, I personally prefer it. Of course, if you prefer the split axis there's nothing stopping you from changing it. The first thing I did on the United paints was change from EFIS/MAP to the PFD/ND layout, I can't stand the EFIS/MAP for some reason..
