March 7, 201214 yr As you can see from my specs below my PC is no slouch. I'm enjoying flight, feeling slightly dirty, eyeing the NGX out of the corner of my eye, and wondering why my Flight graphics performance isn't quite what I thought it would be..I'm not sure how many FPS I'm getting as I'm not using Fraps - because people say it's unreliable and actually adds to the problem, but I will say I get as good FPS in FSX with pretty much all set to high (when above heavy autogen it slows obv) Around 40-60 in FSX and perhaps juddering at 35-45 in FlightFlight seems ever so slightly jerky or juddery and I've turned shadows and AA to medium..Everything else at max, but then surely that was the point? Isn't Flight using my (overclocked) GPU?What gives, fellow Flighters?bestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
March 7, 201214 yr Then you're doing something wrong. Same CPU as you at 4.2, ATI 6990, 8GB Mushkin @ 1600MHZ (xmp timings) Wind7 64.. I run everything completely maxed out and my game is smooth as silk. Are you by chance forcing AA or AF through Nvidia control panel? Just let MS Flight handle all the AA and AF.. March 7, 201214 yr A sense of "juddering" or "stuttering" is subjective so I would recommend you run FRAPS to get an objective view on how well Flight is running. FRAPS might cause a slight performance loss but it'll be in the neighborhood of a couple FPS, nothing too major. For reference, I have a 2500K, 8GB RAM and a 560 Ti 448 and Flight runs beautifully with everything maxed. Since your system is more powerful than mine, either something with your Nvidia drivers / background apps, etc. is causing Flight to slow down or we have different definitions of "stuttering" :)I never bothered to run FRAPS in Flight since it's been running so well but I can do a quick benchmark and post some results for comparison later tonight.
March 7, 201214 yr Author Good point. I don't usually use it; I use Inspector for FSX (which has a Flight profile too...) I'll check to see if it's doing anything..And I'll get Fraps running..And I'm updating my Nvidia drivers as we speakbestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte

I too have not measured the fps, but has to be pretty good I would think. Don B
March 7, 201214 yr I see people recommending that we let Flight handle AA and AF but I would suggest you guys force AF on and see if you like it better. I forced 16xAF through the Nvidia Control Panel and am seeing a noticeable difference in the sharpness of the ground as well as aircraft textures. In my case at least this was quite apparent in the Hangar, when viewing the RV-6. The side graphics on the airplane looked considerably sharper as it was spinning around with 16xAF on.
March 7, 201214 yr Make sure you are not hosting a public MP session - it can get juddery when people come in or out of your "room"

Try some different settings, enhanced, forced, and then see what looks best and still performs great.

March 7, 201214 yr I have aQuadCore 2 @2.54GB RAMATI 5770 1GBEverything High except shadows and weather set at medium. 1920x1080Getting between 30-50.30-35 over cities and anywhere else 35-50.I am not sure but I have noticed than having the chrome browser opened and playing a video(listen a radio program) decreases the performance at least on my PC.I also set the windows classic theme. Free mind, young attitude.
March 7, 201214 yr Author Ok. Updated Nvidia drivers. Seems much better...turned everything up again too. FPS is 45-60 (50 in outside view) but it's still not as silky smooth as I thought it would be..Little jerks every now and then..Not using Inspector or Nvidia CPL to force anything..No background stuff going on, turned off AV. Got classic theme :Thinking:How is it games like Wings of Prey (high 90's) and even FSX (anywhere from 20-100 depending upon wind direction, sign of the zodiac and day of the month) can match this?!Don't get me wrong, it's great to watch, I'm a little underwhelmed when comparing it to other recent titles, that's all..(please let's leave it at that!)Thanks for all the suggestions.Might uninstall it and reinstall it..then get Inspector on it...then see what I can squeeze out of the cfg file...the tweaking begins all over again.. :LMAO:bestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
