Windows 7 Speech recognition has stopped working

Featured Replies

I can't open the control panel or set up my mic all of a sudden after a few days of flawless FS2Crew operation. It seems to be some kind of Windows issue, but I can't find a fix. Can anyone give me any pointers?

Checked. It is not set to start with Windows. I was able to set it up per instructions and use it since Friday morning, but as of last night, it stopped opening. Repainting with Photoshop is the only other thing I've done on the PC since.Edit: I think I've jarred it awake. It MAY be my sound card causing the problem. Once I re-selected my mic through the sound card, the services seem to have started and I was able to access the Speech Recognition control panel after that.I'm feeling guilty because I have intended to post here and thank Bryan for this wonderful product, yet I didn't show up until I had a problem. So, thank you for FS2Crew!

Try a System Restore...The only thing I know that can screw up SAPI (Speech Recognition) is a program called "Systems Mechanic"... it's one of these 'improve your Registry' programs, but it damages SAPI.They acknowledge the issue as well. However, with it you should still be able to open the Control Panel to access the Speech settings, so your situation is bit different.

Bryan, do you know if by chance "CCleaner" may cause the same issue? I did run it yesterday. I tend to run it about once a week.

It could be..... it's probably the cause, but I can't say with certainty.... those Registry Cleaners are dangerous... I don't know why people use them. You'll probably need to do a System Restore. But research it first to save yourself the hassle of a System restore. That's a last resort.

It seems to be ok now. After going trough the sound panel and letting it re-detect the mic, the SAPI panel started working. Very odd. If the problem stays gone, I'll blame the registry cleaner and refrain from using it on a normal basis.Thank you for your top-notch customer service, btw.
