March 13, 201214 yr Author Interesting. Everything seems to be enabled yet it doesn't actually work :( Nice find nonetheless Cheers
March 17, 201214 yr Ok, I just got my G940 set, hooked them up, and got most of the configuration done. Very happy with them, as they provide a much more realistic feel than my Sidewinder Precision 2. The "twitchy" nature of the flight controls seems to be gone... I guess it was just the old stick.Anyway, I wanted to ask if any G940 users had any tips for configuring anything on the stick, such as the trims (which Flight seems to recognize only as buttons rather than axis knobs) and the mini-stick on top, which Flight oddly seems to recognize the vertical miniY-axis as an axis, but the horizontal miniX-axis only as a button.I'll be screwing around in the Logitech Profiler and the flight.CFG file today to try and sort things out.
March 17, 201214 yr Ok, I just got my G940 setTo those who got the g940: did you also consider the hotas warthog? If yes why did you chose the Logitech? Because of the FF? Pricing seems to be pretty much the same. Is the logitech plastic or metal? March 17, 201214 yr To those who got the g940: did you also consider the hotas warthog? If yes why did you chose the Logitech? Because of the FF? Pricing seems to be pretty much the same. The Warthog costs almost twice as much as the G940 and does not include rudder pedals. Add those and you have more than doubled the price.Yes, I did briefly consider it, but not seriously at that price difference.

The Flight setup UI doesn't seem to recognize them, so I configured them in the Logitech Profiler to send keystrokes. I can open Notepad and see it entering the characters I have assigned to the switch positions but, when I load up Flight, nothing happens when I try to use them. I also tried assigning keystrokes to other buttons and, while they work in Notepad, Flight doesn't see them. I can assign the other buttons on the throttle in the Flight setup UI, but I'm at a loss for how to get it to recognize the DPAD and POV hat.I assume I'm missing something simple. Little help?Oh, and if you wouldn't mind exporting and uploading your Flight profile, I'd love to see what you've done.

March 17, 201214 yr I hear TM has done a really good job with the Warhog. I believe it probably has a pretty steep learning curve as well.I have the TM Cougar, that I modded all the way around - The stick is modded with the U2 NXT Gimbal Mod - with hall sensors. The smoothness and precision is absolutely incredible. The throtlle I modded with Hall Sensor as well as anti stiction mod. I also have the older TM Elite Rudder Pedals - again, I have modded them with Hall Sensors. These mods were done about 6 years ago - and everything is just as smooth , rock solid, and spiking free, as they day I did the mods.THe Cougar is all metal, which is what I really like as well - that cold feel when I wrap my hand around the stick, and the weight. The newer Warthog by TM I understand is also the same metal. I believe it added Hall Sensors as stock. But I believe the Warthog suffers from the same strong spring issues that the original Cougar did as well. And I am not sure if they improved on the gimbals for the stick over what was in the Cougar, I sure hope they did. That was a very weak point for it.I only speak of the above due to my in depth experience with the Cougar. Without the mods, it would be nowhere near the stick it is for me now, but I also spent way more on just the mods, than I did the original stick setup. Which is why unless something major happens, will probably never replace it.I am however looking forward to seeing the feedback from RoboRay on his new G940, I am a Logitech fan as well - I have their G19 gaming keyboard and love it - and have heard really good things about the G940... had I been in the same situation, it would have been a tough decision for me on which of those two to go with... March 17, 201214 yr I had the old Thrustmaster F16 FLCS and TQS way back in the day and loved the build quality and customization. I went with Logitech this time around based on price and the good experience I've had with other Logitech controllers (keyboard, mice and driving wheel). The G940 set is plastic surfaced, but some of the moving pieces are metal for durability. For example, the throttle handgrips are plastic (with a nicely textured, soft & grippy surface reminding me of my Seidio cellphone protective case) but are bolted to metal levers which descend into the base of the throttle assembly. The learning curve using the Profiler software doesn't look too bad. Most of the functions seem intuitive, but I'm either missing a setting somewhere or Flight simply isn't fully compatible with the G940. It's bizarre to me that Notepad can register keystrokes from the buttons but Flight ignores them, which seems to indicate the problem lies with Flight itself.
March 18, 201214 yr had the old Thrustmaster F16 FLCS and TQS way back in the day and loved the build quality and customization. I went with Logitech this time around based on price and the good experience I've had with other Logitech controllers (keyboard, mice and driving wheel).Oh yeah, I had one of those as well back in the day - matter of fact still have it here in the closet - it was a fantastic setup for it's time. Now that is very strange about Flight not recognizing all the buttons properly on the G940, after all I am sure they based the G940 buttons on the DX9 button press id's - unless they went outside of them, like having more buttons than what is available in DX9...The Cougar certainly has many buttons, but they all are pretty much recognized , at least from what I can tell, in Flight. At least all of them I have assigned in Flight so far. Don B
March 18, 201214 yr I'm downloading the Take On Helicopters demo so I have something else to try configuring those controls with. If they work fine in TOH, I'm guessing I'm doing it right and Flight is the problem.Still hoping another G940 user chimes in, though.
March 19, 201214 yr I've also actually had the G940 Throttle POV Hat and DPAD working twice in Flight now, after assigning them keystrokes in the Profiler. But, after exiting Flight and reloading back into Flight, they quit working. It seems to sometimes work one time after I change Device IDs for the various parts of the G940 in the Profiler, but it only works for the next time I start Flight and then they won't work the next time after that, and changing them the Device IDs around again doesn't do the trick again.Frustrating.
March 23, 201214 yr OK, after a couple of days of testing and verifying, I think I've finally got the G940 working reliably now. The Throttle must be set to Device ID1 if you want the hats on it to work in Flight (even as keyboard commands), and one of the default settings (for some strange reason) in the Logitech Profiler is to reset the ID of whichever the last device you changed any settings on to become ID1.Anyway, it's all working now except the trim knobs (which register as buttons in Flight), the mini-stick (the X axis and Y axis register as one button each) and the toe brakes (which are simply broken in Flight).Overall, I'm very happy with the set.
March 23, 201214 yr Overall, I'm very happy with the set.Great to hear you have it adjusted more for your tastes and are enjoying it.If I was in the market for a new joystick today, that would certainly likely be the one I would get. Don B
March 24, 201214 yr Great to hear you have it adjusted more for your tastes and are enjoying it.If I was in the market for a new joystick today, that would certainly likely be the one I would get.Well... I will not recommend it without reservation. It does have some issues.I don't care much for the slop it has before reaching the point resistance begins, but that might not be a problem in sims that actually have force feedback. I don't really know.No throttle detents, although old reviews mention it having them. No center detents on rotary wheels or trim knobs, either. The Profiler software could be more user-friendly and crashes periodically while editing profiles.Support-wise, Logitech appears to have abandoned the device in 2010 but is still selling it due to lack of interest in designing a replacement or even just an improved "Mk.II" version. The G940 is a great value for what you get. Just be prepared for some minor annoyances. I probably would buy it again.
March 24, 201214 yr No throttle detents, although old reviews mention it having them. No center detents on rotary wheels or trim knobs, eitherI actually removed the throttle idle detent from my Cougar Throttle, I just found over time I really preferred not having it.Thankfully though my two rotaries on my Throttle do have detents and those I do find handy, Don B
