March 15, 201214 yr Hi,I have never encountered this condition before, and searching the forums did not help. When I go into free flight and the avionics and battery was on (saw this recently with carenado aircraft, but same with default aircrafts too) . I did not start the engine and start playing around with the avionics. After about 3 minutes, all avionics shut off and turning back on the battery would not do anything. I have to restart the flight. Is this a "feature" or another of FSX "bugs"?ThanksVu Pham Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
March 15, 201214 yr Drained your battery. Now, how are you going to start it? I use FSUIPC infinite battery life or you can find a set of jumper cables or booster :). ArDee
March 15, 201214 yr Here's an example:- the Britten-Norman Islander aircraft.cfg (which each aircraft has) - check the bottom line. A "1" makes it 'True'.. (I think!!!) It normally defaults to zero, and not every aircraft config has it. You can add it for yourself if you want.. and test it in case I've got it backwards...[electrical]max_battery_voltage = 25.0generator_alternator_voltage = 28.0max_generator_alternator_amps = 60.0electric_always_available = 1 i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

March 15, 201214 yr Author Hah,Thanks guys. I have always started the engine, then go for my avionics. So heh heh! In real life though, for those that have real aircraft, how long does the battery last? Just curious :( and of course, as I cannot afford real plane will never know ;) Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
March 15, 201214 yr Think about your question for a moment..... You could ask "How long does a car battery last?" and there's fifty-thousand answers, aren't there. :( i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
March 16, 201214 yr Author Think about your question for a moment..... You could ask "How long does a car battery last?" and there's fifty-thousand answers, aren't there. :(Touche. But in car, as far as I know the battery will last more than 3 minutes! I found that it is very odd that the battery in real air plane will die after 3-5 minutes. That's is just not realistic at all. Setting the electrical to last forever is not realistic either. But hey, this is FSX.Thanks Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
March 16, 201214 yr It depends what aircraft we're talking about and what the load is that you're presenting to the battery, doesn't it? - plus what the capacity - and number of the batteries is. "Aircraft" runs from an ultra-light to a B-787. 28 volts might go a long way with only the nav lights on, but the aircraft may have 8 x 80Ah batteries in parallel - or it might have just one 25Ah battery. Off the top of my head I don't know of any way to alter or predict battery life in the sim - but perhaps a dev will pop in and enlighten us both! :smile:Take a peek at these sites: . this first one is a small pdf, and will tell you what battery/s is/are fitted to what aircraft.http://dl.dropbox.com/u/52676345/Eligibility.pdf , and you can buy one from one of these sites:-http://www.concordebattery.com/http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/el/batteries.htmlhttp://www.odysseybatteries.com/applications/aircraft.htmCheers!. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
March 16, 201214 yr If I'm not mistaken (it has happened on occasion) you can extend battery life via a registered FSUIPC. I think too, you want to start the engine(s) and the generator(s), then the avionics so that the battery and systems in general have a nice steady flow of electrons. At any rate, that's my understanding of the real world. Consult the POH for your aircraft, the correct start up order is usually found therein. March 17, 201214 yr Author Thanks all. An interesting topic. I will dig some more. Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
March 17, 201214 yr I have prototyped a "battery charger" gauge, which uses SimConnect. For those of you who have experienced real winter, it is in fact more like booster cables for you aircraft - even though it will only increase battery voltage gradually, once battery voltage is over the minimum value set in the aircraft.cfg file, all the avionics start working again. This happens almost right away.Once I get the graphics cleaned up a little, I can post it, if anyone is interested.Doug
