March 18, 201214 yr Let's see...Cockpit lighting on at night. I turn the dome on above 18,000 feet.Landing lights: crossing runways and on when I've received my T/O clearance or below 18,000 feet and off above 18,000 feet or pulling off the active.Taxi lights: when I have clearance to move.Logo lights: at night below 18,000 feet.Beacon light: engine start to engine off.NAV lights: when electrical power is applied to the aircraft. Off when just on battery power.Strobe: on when I've received my takeoff clearance to after landing and pulling off the active. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
March 18, 201214 yr correct. But we in Europe switch off/on some of the lights at FL100 despite to the 18000ft ;)And just to complete it:Turnoff Lights: I like them tuned on for taxi, too.Wing Lights: at night to check if wing anti ice is needed.Wheel Well Light: on the ground when engines are shut down, for the walkaround :( Greetings, -Chris Jeuck
March 18, 201214 yr Actually the 18,000 feet is just my personal preference... Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
March 18, 201214 yr FAA has recommended (day or night) landing/taxi lights left ON until 18,000 for airliners, up to 3000ft for light GA aircraft, to assist see & be seen.* Orest Orest Skrypuch President & CEO, UVA www.united-virtual.com
March 19, 201214 yr Myself, I've been doing the landing lights off and on at 10,000.. And ditto forthe logo if it's on.I'm not sure what the real worlders are doing in the US, but I had thought it was10k for most airlines as far as the landing lights, etc. Mark Keith
March 19, 201214 yr The landing lights are very much affected by company SOP:s but they are always on when on a runway or on finals. The same is for turnoff lights. Manfred G. Ships are cooler that you think.
March 19, 201214 yr I have asked the same question in another forum. Here comes the answer from a real life Boeing 737 European pilot:Position:Steady lights on, when there is power to the aircraftStrobe on/off whenever crossing the stopbar for a runwayAnti Collision:On when cleared for start-up and before start procedure is completeOff when N1 is less than 5%Runway Turnoff:On when you are cleared for take-off and cleared to land (that way we can remember if we are cleared)Off at the gate together with the taxi light and after take-off together with the take-off procedureTaxi Light:On when you taxi and off when landing lights come on.Landing Lights:This is individual. For the most part retractable and fixed lights is on under FL100 but in some occasions the fixed is first turned on when cleared to land.Logo Light:On under FL100 when it is dark outside.Wing Light:We do not use this much. Mostly to look for ice.Wheel Well:Are used for inspection and walk-around, when it is dark outside. Kind regards Peter
